Franklin College (Indiana)
Franklin College is a private liberal arts college in Franklin, Indiana. It was founded in 1834 and has a wooded campus spanning including athletic fields and a biology woodland. The college offers its approximately 1,000 students Bachelor of Arts degrees in 49 majors from 25 academic disciplines, 43 minors, 11 pre-professional programs, and 5 cooperative programs. The college also offers a Master of Science in Athletic Training and a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. In 1842, the college began admitting women, becoming the first coeducational institution in Indiana and the seventh in the nation. Franklin College Library (Shirk Hall)
Shirk Hall is a historic building located on the campus of Franklin College in Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana. It was built in 1903 and is a one-story, Classical Revival style brick building on a raised basement. It is topped by a cross-gabled roof and copper dome on an octagonal base. The front entrance features engaged Ionic order columns. The building housed the school library until 1964. The building is now home to the college's media school, The Pulliam School of Journalism. George Banta
George Riddle Banta, Sr. (July 16, 1857 – September 23, 1935) was an American publisher and local politician. He was the founder of the George Banta Company (later the Banta Corporation) and was an influential figure in the development of the collegiate Phi Delta Theta fraternity and Delta Gamma women's fraternity. Early life George Riddle Banta was born in Covington, Kentucky on July 16, 1857. His father, David Demaree Banta (1833–1896), was a trustee of Indiana University in Bloomington and was the first dean of its School of Law. Banta attended Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana, where he became an active member of Phi Delta Theta. He graduated in 1876. Career Banta was admitted to the Indiana bar in 1878. He moved to Menasha, Wisconsin, around 1885, where in 1901 he established the George Banta Printing Company. He remained active in the management of the company until his death on September 23, 1935. Indiana Hoosiers Football
The Indiana Hoosiers football program represents Indiana University Bloomington in NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision college football and in the Big Ten Conference. The Hoosiers have played their home games at Memorial Stadium (Indiana), Memorial Stadium since 1960. The team has won the Big Ten Championship twice, once in 1945 and again in 1967. The Hoosiers have appeared in 12 bowl games, including the 1968 Rose Bowl. In 2024 they made the College Football Playoffs. Miami RedHawks Football
The Miami RedHawks football (known as the Miami Redskins before 1996) program represents Miami University, located in Oxford, Ohio, in college football at the NCAA Division I FBS level. Terry Hoeppner
Terry Lee Hoeppner (August 19, 1947 – June 19, 2007) was an American college football coach who served as head coach of the Miami RedHawks from 1999 to 2004 and the Indiana Hoosiers from 2005 to 2006. Shortly after announcing that he would be on medical leave for the 2007 season, he died of brain cancer. Hoeppner was a 1969 graduate of Franklin College, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta international fraternity. He played for the Indiana Caps of the Midwest Football League, and Detroit Wheels and Charlotte Hornets of the World Football League. He owned a 57–39 overall record as a collegiate head coach. He is a member of the Indiana Football Hall of Fame. Family Terry and Jane Hoeppner had three children: Drew Hoeppner, Amy Fox, and Allison Hoeppner. Franklin Wonder Five
The Franklin Wonder Five was a 1920s basketball team from Indiana's " Hoosier Hysteria" era. With basketball king in Indiana, the team from Franklin was dubbed the "Wonder Five". This small town about 20 miles south of Indianapolis produced a team that captured the Indiana State Basketball Championship for three consecutive years: 1920–1922. They became national college champions in 1923, playing with Franklin College and staying undefeated against teams from major universities.
