Frankfurt Major
The Frankfurt Major, also known as the Fall Major, was a ''Dota 2'' tournament which took place from November 13–21, 2015. The tournament took place at the Festhalle Frankfurt in Frankfurt, Germany. It was the first of three Valve sponsored major ''Dota'' tournaments for the 2015–16 season, which were announced by the company on April 25, 2015. 16 teams competed in the tournament, which used the same format as The International 2015. The Electronic Sports League (ESL) hosted and organized the tournament. Eight teams received direct invitations, which were announced on October 5. Regional Qualifiers took place on October 10–13, while the Open Qualifiers, open to any player, were run on October 6–9. Registration for the Open Qualifiers began on October 1. ''Dota 2'' is a 2013 multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) video game by Valve Corporation, Valve. The game is a sequel to ''Defense of the Ancients'' (''DotA''), a community-created Mod (video gaming), mod for Blizzard Entertainment's ''Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos''. ''Dota 2'' is played in matches between two teams of five players, with each team occupying and defending their own separate base on the map. CDEC Gaming is a Chinese professional ''Dota 2'' esports team based in Shanghai. The team placed second at The International 2015, which they qualified for with a wildcard. The achievement was considered a major upset. At TI CDEC also won their group stage and beat LGD Gaming and eventual winners Evil Geniuses in bracket. CDEC is an abbreviation for Chinese Dota Elite Community. History On April 25, 2014, LGD Gaming announced that they would form a youth team called LGD.CDEC.
