Frank S. Royal
Frank S. Royal (born c. 1940) is an American physician, company director and civic leader. He is the former chairman and president of the National Medical Association, an African-American medical organization. Early life Royal was born circa 1940. He graduated from Virginia Union University in 1961, and he earned an MD from the Meharry Medical College in 1968. Career Royal has practised medicine in Richmond, Virginia since 1969. According to the ''Nashville Post'', "Royal also served as chief of staff at Richmond Community Hospital and as an assistant clinical professor of family practice at the Medical College of Virginia." He is the former president and chairman of the National Medical Association, an African-American medical association. Royal served on the boards of directors of CSX Corporation from 1994 to 2008, SunTrust Banks from 1998 to April 2012, Smithfield Foods from 2002 to 2013. Virginia Union University
Virginia Union University is a Private university, private Historically black colleges and universities, historically black university in Richmond, Virginia. History The American Baptist Home Mission Society (ABHMS) founded the school as Richmond Theological Institute in 1865 shortly after Union troops took control of Richmond, Virginia, at the end of the American Civil War, for African-American freedmen to enter into the ministry. The college had the first academic library at a historically black college or university (HBCU), building the library in 1865 which was the same year the college was established. Its mission was soon expanded to offer courses and programs at college, high school, and preparatory levels, to both men and women. This effort was the beginning of Virginia Union University. Robert Russa Moton Museum
The Robert Russa Moton Museum (popularly known as the Moton Museum or Moton) is a historic site and museum in Farmville, Prince Edward County, Virginia. It is located in the former Robert Russa Moton High School, considered "the student birthplace of America's Civil Rights Movement" for its initial student strike and ultimate role in the 1954 ''Brown v. Board of Education'' case desegregating public schools. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1998, and is now a museum dedicated to that history. Meharry Medical College
Meharry Medical College is a private historically black medical school affiliated with the United Methodist Church and located in Nashville, Tennessee. Founded in 1876 as the Medical Department of Central Tennessee College, it was the first medical school for African Americans in the South. While the majority of African Americans lived in the South, they were excluded from many public and private racially segregated institutions of higher education, particularly after the end of Reconstruction.
