Frank Pitchford
Frank Pitchford (1934 – January 1990) was an English professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s and 1960s. He played at representative level for Great Britain national rugby league team, Great Britain and England national rugby league team, England, and at club level for Oldham R.L.F.C., Oldham and Wigan Warriors, Wigan as a . He was born in Leigh in 1934 and played as an amateur for Leigh St Joseph’s before signing for Oldham at the start of the 1952–53 Northern Rugby Football League season, 1952-53 season. He would play for the Oldham club for 10 years, appearing in over 300 games and scoring 105 tries. Leigh, Greater Manchester
Leigh is a town in Greater Manchester, England, on low-lying land northwest of Chat Moss. Within the boundaries of the Historic counties of England, historic county of Lancashire, Leigh was originally the centre of a large ecclesiastical parish covering six vills or townships. The Other Nationalities rugby league team was a rugby league representative team that usually consisted of non-English players. They competed in the first ever rugby league international in 1904, against , fielding players from Wales and Scotland. In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. An early illustration of the 1872 Scotland v England football match, first international football match between Scotland and England in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls, and the English wearing a variety of school caps.
