Frank Norris (footballer)
Frank Norris (1869–1934) was an English footballer who played in the Football League as a full back for Preston North End in 1891–92. He also played non-league football for Preston Hornets, Fishwick Ramblers and Darlington. Personal life Norris's birth was registered in Preston, Lancashire in the third quarter of 1869.. Retrieved 13 February 2017. He was one of numerous children of Francis Norris (also known as Frank) and his wife Margaret. At the time of Norris's baptism at All Saints Church in September 1869, the family were living in the Ashton area of the city and Norris senior was working as an engine tenter. Norris died in his native Preston in 1934 at the age of 65. His death was registered in the last quarter of that year. Nick Ross (footballer, Born 1863)
Nicholas John Ross (6 December 1862 – 7 August 1894) was a Scottish footballer who played as a defender or striker. He was a Preston North End player upon his death, playing as full back. Career Ross played for, and captained, Heart of Midlothian in the early stages of his football career before being persuaded to join Preston North End by club secretary William Sudell who also provided him with a job as a slater. Preston North End converted Ross from a centre-forward to a left-back. Ross was made captain of Preston and over the next few years earned a reputation as one of the best defenders in English football. He featured in the 1886–87 FA Cup Semi-Final where Preston were beaten 2–1 by West Bromwich Albion. The North Riding County Football Association, also known as the ''North Riding FA'', is the football governing body for the North Riding of Yorkshire. Its headquarters are located in the town of Stokesley, south of Middlesbrough, England. Affiliated members pay a fee commensurate with the level of competition they play in. Darlington Works
Darlington Works was established in 1863 by the Stockton and Darlington Railway in the town of Darlington in the north east of England. The main part of the works, the North Road Shops was located on the northeast side of the Stockton and Darlington Railway (now part of the Tees Valley Line) History NER period The first new locomotive was built at the works in 1864. The North Riding Senior Cup is the county cup in the North Riding of Yorkshire. It is administered by the North Riding County FA. According to the current rules of the competition, it is open to all clubs whose first affiliation is with the NRCFA. A team having entered an F.A. Competition, (Challenge Cup, Vase or Trophy), in the current season must compete in the Senior Cup. Clubs can be exempt upon payment of a fee. Therefore, the lowest tier for compulsory entry are Northern Football League, Northern League Division Two, Northern Counties East Football League, Northern Counties East Division One or other Leagues of a similar status. Robert Holmes (footballer)
Robert Holmes (23 June 1867 – 17 November 1955) was a professional footballer, who played for Preston North End. Career Holmes was the longest–serving survivor of the Preston North End team known as the 'Invincibles' when he died aged 88 in November 1955. His first club was Preston Olympic from 1883. There is no clear record of when he signed for Preston North End. Season 1887–88 was when he came to prominence. He played wing–half in the 1888 FA Cup Final played on 24 March 1888 at Kennington Oval against West Bromwich Albion. Preston North End lost 2–1.
