Frank Narvo
Francis James 'Frank' Narvo (24 April 1933 – 22 July 2015) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s. Career Son of the great rugby league player and boxer Herb Narvo, Frank Narvo started his career at St George Dragons as a junior, and later played two seasons in first grade between 1952 and 1953. He moved to Newtown in 1954 and played seven seasons with the club before retiring at the end of the 1960 season. He played in two losing grand final teams with Newtown. New Lambton is a suburb of Newcastle, in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. It is located about west of the Newcastle central business district. The St. George Dragons are an Australian rugby league, rugby league football club from the St George, Sydney, St George District in Sydney, New South Wales that played in the top level New South Wales Rugby League, New South Wales competition and Australian Rugby League competitions from the 1921 NSWRFL season, 1921 until the 1997 ARL season, as well as the unified 1998 National Rugby League season. Newtown Jets
The Newtown Jets are an Australian rugby league football club based in Newtown, New South Wales, Newtown, a suburb of Inner West (Sydney), Sydney's inner west. Herb Narvo
Hermann Olaf Frances "Herb" Narvo (19 August 1912 – 28 July 1958) was an Australian rugby league footballer and boxer of the 1930s and 1940s. He was a national representative rugby league player and national heavyweight boxing champion. He has been named among the nation's finest footballers and sportsman of the 20th century. Rugby league career Born in Sydney of German descent, but raised in Newcastle, Herb Narvo signed with Newtown in 1937 and soon shone as one of the form forwards of the competition. Following an injury to Joe Pearce, Narvo was a late call up to 1937 Kangaroo tour where he starred, playing in four Tests, eighteen minor matches and scoring ten tour tries. The 1954 NSWRFL season was the forty-seventh season of the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership competition, based in Sydney. Ten rugby league football teams from across the city competed for the J. J. Giltinan Shield during the season, which culminated in the first "mandatory" Grand Final played between South Sydney and Newtown. The 1955 NSWRFL season was the 48th season of the New South Wales Rugby Football League. Ten teams from across Sydney competed for the NSWRFL Premiership J. J. Giltinan Shield during the season, which culminated in a replay of the previous year's Grand Final between the South Sydney and Newtown clubs. Season summary Halfway through the 1955 season Souths were in equal 9th place having won just three of ten matches. From that point they didn't lose another game, winning eight season encounters in a row before the finals. Eventually they finished 4th. Had they lost a single one of these games they would have missed the finals. In the second last match of the regular season Souths met Manly-Warringah and were behind 4–7 with moments to go.
