Frank Murchison Moore
Second Lieutenant Frank Murchison Moore (4 July 1894 - 2 September 1918) was an officer with the United States Army Air Service during the World War I, Great War. He was killed in action in the waning months of that conflict. Moore Air Force Base, northwest of Mission, Texas, Mission, Texas, was named in his honor. Background Moore was a native of Houston, Texas. He attended Washington & Lee University from 1912 to 1916. Service Moore joined the Army Air Service in 1917 as part of the United States Army Reserve, Officers Reserve Corps. He served as an artillery observer with 7th Field Artillery Regiment, 7th Field Artillery, flying with 88th Aero Squadron, under the 26th Infantry Division (United States), 26th Division. 26th Infantry Division (United States)
The 26th Infantry Division was an infantry division (military), division of the United States Army. A major formation of the Massachusetts Army National Guard, it was based in Boston, Massachusetts for most of its history. Today, the division's heritage is carried on by the 26th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade. Formed on 18 July 1917 and activated 22 August 1917 at Camp Edwards, MA, consisting of units from the New England area, the division's commander selected the nickname "Yankee Division" to highlight the division's geographic makeup. Sent to Europe in World War I as part of the American Expeditionary Forces, the division saw extensive combat in France. Fismes () is a Communes of France, commune in the Marne (department), Marne Departments of France, department in the Grand Est region of north-eastern France. The commune has been awarded three flowers in the ''Concours des villes et villages fleuris, Competition of cities and villages in Bloom''. Geography Fismes is located 25 km west by northwest of Reims and some 12 km east by southeast of Braine, Aisne, Braine. Access is by National Highway N31 from Reims through the heart of the commune and the town and continuing west to Soissons. There is also the D967 road from Longueval-Barbonval in the north to the town and continuing southwest to Chery-Chartreuve.
