Frank Molloy (born 1 March 1938) is a Samoan-born New Zealand professional golfer A professional golfer is somebody who receives payments or financial rewards in the sport of golf that are directly related to their skill or reputation. A person who earns money by teaching or playing golf is traditionally considered a "golf pr .... He won the Fiji Open in 1971 and the Samoan Open in 1972 and 1974. He is notable for being one of the first Polynesians, Polynesian professional golfers. He is believed to have been the first Pacific Islander to compete in The Open Championship. He also played Rugby league for Auckland rugby league team, Auckland in 1962. Early life Molloy was born in the village of Moata'a just to the east of Apia, Samoa. Mālietoa ( ''Mālietoa'') is a state dynasty and one of the four paramount chiefly titles of Samoa. It is the titular head of one of the two great royal families of Samoa: Sā Malietoa. 1972 Open Championship
The 1972 Open Championship was the 101st Open Championship, held 12–15 July at Muirfield Golf Links in Gullane, East Lothian, Scotland. Lee Trevino won his second straight Claret Jug, the first to successfully defend his title since Arnold Palmer in 1962. Trevino finished one stroke ahead of runner-up Jack Nicklaus, ending his bid for the Grand Slam. Nicklaus had won the first two majors in 1972 and was the odds-on favorite at Muirfield, where he won his first Open in 1966. He also held the PGA Championship title from February 1971; a win at Muirfield and he would become the first to hold all four major titles at once. Six strokes back at even-par after 54 holes, Nicklaus shot a final round 66 (−5) on Saturday to tie the course record, but played the final three holes at one-over par. Roy Phillips
Roy Godfrey Phillips (born 5 May 1941, in Parkstone, Poole, Dorset) is a British musician. He was a member of The Soundtracks (a backing group of The Dowlands), The Saints and The Peddlers. Background Phillips is known as the voice and keyboard sound of well-known popular trio, The Peddlers which was formed in Manchester in 1964 . In later years, Phillips was so taken with New Zealand, he decided to settle there. He has lived there since 1981. he spent some time in Auckland but didn't want to settle there so he moved up north to Paihia and ran a café there for eight years. After that he moved to Queenstown. In 2002, he moved to Christchurch and married to his wife, Robyn. He is still performing and writing music.
