Frank Henze
Frank Henze (born 1 April 1977 in Leipzig) is a German slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1995 to 2013. He won three medals in the C2 team event at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with two silvers (2002, 2009) and a bronze (2010). He won six more medals at the European Championships in the same event (3 golds, 1 silver and 2 bronzes). At the 2012 Summer Olympics he competed in the C2 event. He did not advance to the semifinals after finishing 11th in the qualifying round. His partner in the boat between 1998 and 2002 was Kai Walter. From 2005 to 2013 he competed internationally with David Schröder. Canoe Slalom
Canoe slalom (previously known as whitewater slalom) is a competitive sport with the aim to navigate a decked canoe or kayak through a course of hanging downstream or upstream gates on river rapids in the fastest time possible. It is one of the two kayak and canoeing disciplines at the Summer Olympics, and is referred to by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as Canoe/Kayak Slalom. The other Olympic canoeing discipline is canoe sprint. Wildwater canoeing is a non-Olympic paddlesport. History Canoe slalom racing started in Switzerland in 1933, initially on a flatwater course. Canoeing At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Men's Slalom C-2
The men's canoe slalom C-2 competition at the 2012 Olympic Games in London took place between 30 July and 2 August at the Lee Valley White Water Centre. Twenty-eight canoeists from 12 countries competed. Great Britain's Tim Baillie and Etienne Stott won the gold medal and David Florence and Richard Hounslow won silver. Twin brothers Pavol and Peter Hochschorner of Slovakia won the bronze. Competition format In the heats, each competitor had two runs; the 10 teams with the best time qualified for the semi-finals. Each semi-final consisted of one run each and the best six qualified for the final. The final saw one run each where the team with the best time won the gold medal. 2010 Canoe Slalom World Cup
The 2010 Canoe Slalom World Cup was a series of five races in 5 canoeing and kayaking categories organized by the International Canoe Federation (ICF). It was the 23rd edition and it marked the first time that women competed for the single canoe world cup points and title. The series consisted of 2 continental championships (Oceania and Asia) which were open to all countries and 3 world cup races. The athletes gained points for their results in the three world cup races plus their best result from any of the two continental championships. Augsburg Eiskanal
The ''Augsburg Eiskanal'' is an artificial whitewater river in Augsburg, Germany, constructed as the canoe slalom venue for the 1972 Summer Olympics in nearby Munich. The first artificial whitewater course of its kind, it introduced the sport of canoe slalom (using decked canoes and kayaks) to the Olympic Games. However, because of the expense of building artificial rivers and supplying them with water, canoe slalom was missing from the next four Summer Olympics. It returned with the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, and has been featured in every Summer Olympics since then. Stefan Henze
Stefan Henze (3 May 1981 – 15 August 2016) was a German slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1996 to 2011. Career Henze won a silver medal in the C2 event at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. He also won six medals at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with a gold (C2: 2003), four silvers (C2: 2006, C2 team: 2003, 2006, 2009), and a bronze (C2: 2005). He won a gold and two silvers in the C2 team event at the European Championships. His partner in the C2 boat throughout his career was Marcus Becker. Jürgen Henze (born 23 June 1950 in Schkopau) is a former East German slalom canoeist who competed in the 1970s. He won a gold medal in the C2 team event at the 1975 in Skopje. Henze also finished 18th in the C2 event at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. His partner in the boat was Herbert Fischer. His two sons Frank and Stefan were also slalom canoeists. Both represented reunified Germany in the Olympics unlike their father who only competed for the now dissolved East Germany.
