Frank Henry (Gaelic Footballer)
Francis G. Henry (1955 – 7 November 2022) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played for the Shamrocks Gaels and St Mary's, Leixlip clubs, and at senior level for the Sligo county team. Career Henry played underage football with Knockalassa before winning a Sligo Vocational Schools SFC title with Coola Vocational School in 1969. He later joined the Shamrock Gaels club and won consecutive Sligo MFC titles in 1972 and 1973. Henry added a Sligo U21FC title to his collection in 1975 before claiming his first adult silverware when Shamrock Gaels won the inaugural Sligo IFC title in 1979. Henry first appeared on the inter-county scene with Sligo as a member of the minor team. He was soon drafted onto the senior team and made his debut during the 1973–74 league. Henry was at left wing-forward when Sligo won their first Connacht SFC title in 47 years after a defeat of Mayo in the 1975 final replay. Shamrock Gaels GAA
Shamrock Gaels is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the east of County Sligo, Republic of Ireland, including the parishes of Riverstown, Sooey, Gleann and Castlebaldwin. It was formed in March 1972 when two clubs, Sooey and Knockalassa, amalgamated. As of 2022, it was a Sligo Senior Football Championship club. They celebrated their fiftieth birthday that year, with RTÉ TV's Pat Spillane a guest of theirs. All-Ireland Minor Football Championship
The Electric Ireland All-Ireland Minor Football Championship is the premier under-17 "knockout" competition in Gaelic football played in Ireland. 2017 was the final year of the minor under 18 football championship as it were replaced by an under 17 championship following a vote at the GAA congress on 26 February 2016. The series of games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association and are played during the summer months with the All-Ireland Minor Football Final being played on the third Sunday in September in Croke Park, Dublin as the curtain-raiser to the senior final. The 1975 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 89th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament. The championship began on 25 May 1975 and ended on 28 September 1975. Dublin were the defending champions. London fielded a team in the senior championship for the first time. Mayo County Football Team
The Mayo county football team (;) represents Mayo in men's Gaelic football and is governed by Mayo GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The team competes in the three major annual inter-county competitions; the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Connacht Senior Football Championship and the National Football League. Connacht Senior Football Championship
The Connacht Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition for the senior county teams of Connacht GAA. All of the counties of Connacht participate in the championship, as well as counties London and New York. The winning team receives the Nestor Cup. The Connacht Senior Football Championship is run on a knock-out basis in which once a team loses they are eliminated from the competition. A series of games are played during the summer months and the final is played in June or July. The winner progresses directly to the All-Ireland Super 8s, while losing teams progress to the All-Ireland Qualifiers (before 2001 the All-Ireland was a straight knock-out format meaning all losing teams were eliminated after a single defeat). Leixlip GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in Leixlip, County Kildare, Ireland. They were senior football finalists in 1986, club of the year 1979, and home club of Matt Goff who featured on the Kildare millennium football team at full-back. Geography The Leixlip club was first affiliated to the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1887. For the following few years progress was slow and club activity was haphazard. However, in 1912 a meeting was convened in the local school for the purpose of re-forming the club. John J Radley, a local school-master agreed to act as Honorary Secretary and another teacher, P Mullaney – then a member of the Leinster Council of the GAA – was appointed as his assistant.
