Frank Godwin (film Producer)
Frank Godwin (23 June 1917 – 6 September 2012) was an English film producer, best known for the film '' Woman in a Dressing Gown''. Born to a theatrical family, Godwin initially worked as an accountant and joined Gainsborough Studios in 1943. In 1956, Godwin established a film production company with film director J. Lee Thompson and writer Ted Willis. They made two films for Associated British Picture Corporation: the award-winning '' Woman in a Dressing Gown'' (1957) and ''No Trees in the Street'' (1959). Godwin was a producer for films such as ''Don't Bother to Knock'' (1961) and ''Demons of the Mind'' (1972). His final film was ''Terry on the Fence'' (1985) which he also wrote and directed. Woman In A Dressing Gown
''Woman in a Dressing Gown'' is a 1957 British drama film directed by J. Lee Thompson and starring Yvonne Mitchell, Anthony Quayle, Sylvia Syms, and Carole Lesley. The screenplay was written by Ted Willis, based on his 1956 '' ITV Television Playhouse'' play of the same name. The producer was Frank Godwin who called it "the first kitchen sink movie". The film concerns a man who is having an extramarital affair and considers divorce, and his wife's reaction to the affair. Scenes compare and contrast the man's relationship with his wife versus his relationship with his lover. These are not only very different in content, but very different in film style, shots with his lover being in extreme close-up and/or unusually framed shots. Gainsborough Studios
Gainsborough Pictures was a British film studio based on the south bank of the Regent's Canal, in Poole Street, Hoxton in the former Metropolitan Borough of Shoreditch, east London. Gainsborough Studios was active between 1924 and 1951. The company was initially based at Islington Studios, which were built as a power station for the Great Northern & City Railway and later converted to studios. Other films were made at Lime Grove and Pinewood Studios. The former Islington studio was converted to flats in 2004 and a London Borough of Hackney historical plaque is attached to the building. The studio is best remembered for the Gainsborough melodramas it produced in the 1940s. Gainsborough Pictures is now owned by Gregory Motton. Ted Willis, Baron Willis
Edward Henry Willis, Baron Willis (13 January 1914 – 22 December 1992) was an English playwright, novelist and screenwriter who was also politically active in support of the Labour Party. He created several television series, including the long-running police drama ''Dixon of Dock Green''. Associated British Picture Corporation (ABPC), originally British International Pictures (BIP), was a British film production, distribution and exhibition company active from 1927 until 1970 when it was absorbed into EMI.
