Frank Challoner
Frank Challoner (July 6, 1853 – January 11, 1899) was an American businessman and politician who served as a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly. Biography Born in Omro, Wisconsin, Challoner attended the University of Wisconsin and lived in California for two years. Challoner was the owner of Frank Challoner & Company in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Challoner served as president of the Omro Village Board and was a Republican. Challoner served in the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1885 to 1889. Challoner served on the University of Wisconsin–Madison board of regents at the time of his death. Challoner died in Oshkosh, Wisconsin Oshkosh is a city in Winnebago County, Wisconsin, of which it is the county seat. Omro, Wisconsin
Omro is a city in Winnebago County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 3,517 at the 2010 census. The city is located along the Fox River, approximately 10 miles west of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. History 1853 description OMRO, P. V., on section 17 and 18, in town of Bloomingdale, Winnebago county, at the junction of the Manitowoc and Menasha, (extended), and the Waupun and Liberty Prairie plank roads. It is pleasantly situated on the south side of the Neenah oxriver, 11 miles west from Oshkosh, and 75 miles northeast from Madison. It has a heavy body of timber on the north, with a rich soil of openings and prairie on the south, and has excellent facilities by water for obtaining pine logs from the immense pinery of Wolf river, a great quantity of which is here manufactured into lumber. Oshkosh, Wisconsin
Oshkosh is a city in Winnebago County, Wisconsin, of which it is the county seat. The city had a population of 66,816 in 2020, making it the ninth-largest city in Wisconsin. It is also adjacent to the Town of Oshkosh. History Oshkosh was named for Menominee Chief Oshkosh, whose name meant "claw" (cf. Ojibwe ''oshkanzh'', "the claw"). Although the fur trade attracted the first European settlers to the area as early as 1818, it never became a major player in the fur trade. The 1820s mining boom in southwest Wisconsin along with the opening of the Erie Canal shifted commercial activity away from the Fox River Valley and Green Bay. Wisconsin State Assembly
The Wisconsin State Assembly is the lower house of the Wisconsin Legislature. Together with the smaller Wisconsin Senate, the two constitute the legislative branch of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Representatives are elected for two-year terms, elected during the fall elections. If a vacancy occurs in an Assembly seat between elections, it may be filled only by a special election. The Wisconsin Constitution limits the size of the State Assembly to between 54 and 100 members inclusive.
