Frank B. Simpson (1883–1966) was an American architect. A number of his works are listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The Apex Historic District is the historic commercial and residential center of Apex, North Carolina, a satellite town of the state capital Raleigh. The district revolves around Salem Street, the main thoroughfare in downtown Apex. In 2007, CNNMoney.com ranked Apex as the 14th best place to live in the United States. The report cited the Historic District as one reason for the award and described the district as "quaint, impressively intact, and with an array of commercial and residential buildings now serving visitors and residents alike." Apex, North Carolina
Apex () is a town in Wake County, North Carolina, United States. At its southern border, Apex encompasses the community of Friendship. In 1994, the downtown area was designated a historic district, and the Apex train depot, built in 1867, is designated a Wake County landmark. The depot location marks the highest point on the old Chatham Railroad, hence the town's name. The town motto is "The Peak of Good Living". In the late 19th century, a small community developed around the railroad station. The forests were cleared for farmland, much of which was dedicated to tobacco farming. Since Apex was near the state capital, it became a trading center. The railroad shipped products such as lumber, tar, and tobacco. The town was officially incorporated in 1873. Wake Forest is a town in Wake and Franklin counties in the U.S. state of North Carolina. Located almost entirely in Wake County, it lies just north of the state capital, Raleigh. Enfield Graded School, also known as Enfield Middle School, is a historic school building located at Enfield, Halifax County, North Carolina. It was designed by architect Frank B. Simpson and built in 1950. It is a two-story, Colonial Revival-style brick building. The H-shaped building consists of a large two-story central block, projecting two-story flanking wings, a one-story auditorium, and a one-story kitchen addition. Also on the property are the contributing brick gymnasium (1951), concrete block agricultural building (1952), and adjacent athletic fields. Marshall High School is a historic high school building located at Marshall, Madison County, North Carolina. It was designed by noted Raleigh architect Frank B. Simpson and built in 1926. It is two-story-plus-basement, U-shaped brick building with a low hip roof in the Colonial Revival style. Marshall High School continued to serve the community until a new high school was built in 1973. The building was damaged in a flood in 2004, and was subsequently renovated starting in February 2007.
