Franciszek Surmiński
Franciszek Surmiński (5 December 1934 – 2 October 2021) was a Polish racing cyclist, active in international competitions from 1961 to 1970. He participated in road races and cyclo-cross. He lived in Rudziczka, a village near the town of Prudnik, from which he received honorary citizenship on 28 February 2020. Tour of Malopolska ( Polish: ''Małopolski Wyścig Górski'') is an annual, professional men's multiple-stage cycling race in Lesser Poland Voivodeship. Since 2005, it has been part of the UCI Europe Tour. History The race was first held in 1961 and is one of the oldest bicycle races in Poland. Zbigniew Piątek holds the record for the most victories with three, in 1989, 1998 and 2001. The race usually consists of three or four stages as well as a prologue. The prologue is usually organized at the Main Market Square in Kraków and the points won are included in the general classification. Most of the race consists of hilly or mountain stages. Since 2015, the first stage of Tour of Małopolska has been taking place on the Alwernia – Trzebinia route. The most recent winner is Márton Dina of Hungary. The Tour de Pologne (; ), officially abbreviated TdP, is an annual, professional men's Race stage, multiple-stage cycle sport, bicycle race primarily held in Poland. It consists of seven or eight stages and is usually around 1,200 km in length. The race was first held in 1928 and is considered the oldest and most important bicycle race in Poland. Until 1952 the race was held sporadically, but since then it has been an annual race. Until early 1993 the race was open to Amateur sports, amateur cyclists only and most of its winners came from Poland. Since 2009, the race has been taking place between July and August.
