Francisco Augusto Lora
Francisco Augusto Lora González (1910–1993), was a vice president of the Dominican Republic and presidential candidate in 1966, 1970, 1974 and 1978. As vice-president, he was a member of President Joaquín Balaguer's Reformist Party (PR). When Balaguer threatened to leave the PR in 1970 and campaign outside of the organization, Augusto Lora was effectively forced out of the party and went on to become the leader of and ultimately the candidate for a new political party, the Movement for Democratic Integration against Reelection (MIDA). The Dominican Republic ( ; es, República Dominicana, ) is a country located on the island of Hispaniola in the Greater Antilles archipelago of the Caribbean region. Joaquín Balaguer
Joaquín Antonio Balaguer Ricardo (1 September 1906 – 14 July 2002) was a Dominican politician, scholar, writer, and lawyer. He was President of the Dominican Republic serving three non-consecutive terms for that office from 1960 to 1962, 1966 to 1978, and 1986 to 1996. His enigmatic, secretive personality was inherited from the Trujillo era, as well as his desire to perpetuate himself in power through dubious elections and state terrorism, and he was considered to be a '' caudillo''. His regime of terror claimed 11,000 victims who were either tortured or forcibly disappeared and killed. Nevertheless, Balaguer was also considered to be instrumental in the liberalization of the Dominican government, and his time as leader of the Dominican Republic saw major changes such as legalized political activities, surprise army promotions and demotions, promoting health and education improvements and instituting modest land reforms. Furcy Fondeur
Colonel Furcy Fondeur Lajeunesse (1814 – 22 November 1892) was a French-born Dominican Republic military man and politician. Born in France, his family moved to the Spanish Captaincy General of Santo Domingo around 1820. His father was Louis Fondeur and his mother was Marguerite LaJeunesse, Comtesse De La Juvenile; he had 5 siblings. He married Jacinta Castro and had 5 children, he was widowed and remarried to María Luisa Fernández Fernández (1837–1895) and had 10 children. On 14 September 1863, Fondeur signed the Act of the Independence of the Dominican Republic from Spain, and fought in the Dominican Restoration War as a colonel; he is considered a hero of the Battle of Santiago (1863).
