Francis Kean
Francis Frederick Kean (born ) is a former Fijian military officer, public servant, sports administrator, and convicted killer. In 2007, when he was serving as Commander of the Republic of Fiji Navy he was charged with murder. He was ultimately convicted of manslaughter, but served only six months of an 18 month sentence. Kean is the brother-in-law of former Fijian dictator Frank Bainimarama. Murder charge Kean was arrested on 6 January 2007 and charged with the murder of salesman John Whippy at the Royal Suva Yacht Club, after a wedding reception for Whippy's nephew Samuel Whippy and his bride, Ateca Bainimarama, the Prime Minister's daughter, on 31 December 2006. Kean had punched and kicked John Whippy following the latter's drunken insults against him. The attack resulted in Whippy's death. Republic Of Fiji Navy
The Republic of Fiji Navy or Fijian Navy is the navy, naval branch of the Fiji, Republic of Fiji Republic of Fiji Military Forces, Military Forces. Formerly known as the Royal Fijian Navy, it was established after Fiji ratified the recently created 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. Frank Bainimarama
Josaia Voreqe "Frank" Bainimarama (; born 27 April 1954) is a Fijian former politician and naval officer who served as the prime minister of Fiji from 2007 until 2022. A member of the FijiFirst party, which he founded in 2014, he began his career as an officer in the Fijian navy and commander of the Fijian military. Despite being suspended from Parliament, he served as the opposition leader from 24 December 2022 until 8 March 2023, when he resigned and was replaced by Inia Seruiratu. Bainimarama attended Marist Brothers High School, the Asian Institute of Technology and Dalhousie University. He joined the Fijian Navy in 1975 and rose through the ranks, becoming an able seaman and a midshipman in 1976, an ensign in 1977, and later promoted to a sub-lieutenant at the end of that year. Royal Suva Yacht Club
Royal Suva Yacht Club is a Fijian yacht club, located in Walu Bay, Suva, Fiji. The yacht club was originally established in 1932, as the Suva Yacht Club, located between Stinson Jetty and Nubukalou Creek along Suva's foreshore before the land was reclaimed. The first flag officers at the club were Commodore T. M. McGuire, Vice Commodore E. E. McGowan and Rear Commodore F. Reay. The club had an initial membership of approximately 20, with six to eight boats of various sizes. The first official race was held on 22 October 1932, with the first cruising race held on 17 January 1933 from Suva to Nukulau ( west of Suva) and the first regatta was held at Levuka in August 1933. In June 1935 the first overseas yachts visited the club. Construction of a new site in Walu Bay commenced in September 1937 but wasn't completed until August 1948. Esala Teleni
Commodore Esala Teleni ( – 28 February 2020) was a Fijian naval officer, who served the military-backed interim government as Commissioner of the Fiji Police Force from 1 July 2007 to mid-2010. He then served as Fiji's Ambassador to China till 2014 and the Fijian High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea. Teleni was regarded as a staunch ally of Frank Bainimarama, who seized power in a military coup on 5 December 2006. Prior to the coup, Teleni played a key role in thwarting a government move to dismiss Bainimarama and install Colonel Meli Saubulinayau, who was regarded as loyal to the government, in his place. Constitutional Offices Commission (Fiji)
The Constitutional Offices Commission is an advisory body that is responsible for providing advice to the President of Fiji for the appointment of key officials within public offices in Fiji. History Established by the 1997 Constitution of Fiji, the Commission originally consisted of a chairperson and two other individuals, all appointed by the President on the advice of the responsible Minister. When the 2013 Constitution of Fiji came into effect, the Commission was re-established but came with many changes including the Prime Minister being a member of the Commission and chairperson. On 17 April 2015, the Commission held its first meeting since the 2006 coup under the premiership of Frank Bainimarama. Bainimarama's appointee was Ajith Kodagoda.
