''Frances'' is a 1982 American biographical tragedy film directed by Graeme Clifford and written by Eric Bergren, Christopher De Vore, and Nicholas Kazan. The film stars Jessica Lange as Frances Farmer, a troubled actress during the 1930s whose career suffered as a result of her mental illness. It also features Kim Stanley, Sam Shepard, Bart Burns, Christopher Pennock, Jonathan Banks, and Jeffrey DeMunn in supporting roles. Graeme Clifford
Graeme Clifford (born 27 September 1942) is an Australian film director. His directing credits include the Academy Award-nominated film ''Frances'', '' Gleaming the Cube'' and the mini-series ''The Last Don'', which received two Emmy nominations. A biographical film or biopic () is a film that dramatizes the life of an actual person or group of people. Such films show the life of a historical person and the central character's real name is used. They differ from Docudrama, docudrama films and Historical drama, historical drama films in that they attempt to comprehensively tell a single person's life story or at least the most historically important years of their lives. ''This Is Your Life'' is an American reality television, reality Documentary film, documentary series broadcast on NBC radio from 1948 to 1952, and on NBC television from 1952 to 1961. It was originally hosted by its creator and producer Ralph Edwards. In the program, the host surprised guests and then took them through a retrospective of their lives in front of an audience, including appearances by colleagues, friends, and family. Deinstitutionalisation (or deinstitutionalization) is the process of replacing long-stay psychiatric hospitals with less isolated community mental health services for those diagnosed with a mental disorder or developmental disability. In the 1950s and 1960s, it led to the closure of many psychiatric hospitals, as patients were increasingly cared for at home, in halfway houses, group homes, and clinics, in regular hospitals, or not at all. Christopher Cadwalader Pennock (June 7, 1943 – February 12, 2021) was an American actor, writer and illustrator. Pennock began acting on stage after graduating from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. He had been active for over 40 years starring on Broadway and off-Broadway, in repertory and experimental theater, and in many films and television shows. He was perhaps best known for his run on the television show ''Dark Shadows'' in the early 1970s, playing multiple roles in various timelines.
