Fran Villalba (composer)
Fran Villalba (Asunción, 7 November 1978) is a Paraguayan composer and pianist. He has composed scores for many short films and featured films. He is best known as the composer of the award-winning Paraguayan film ''7 Boxes'' (2012). Education and career He holds a degree in accounting from Universidad Católica "Nuestra Señora de la Asunción". He has a classical music education (Piano Professor, Accésit and Professor of Music Theory), self-taught studies in harmony, composition and electronic music. He holds a master's degree in Composition of Soundtracks and Music for Audiovisual Media from the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya. He has been recently selected to participate in the Berlinale Talents 2024 that will take place from February 17 to 22 in Berlin. He was keyboardist of the rock band Gaudí (1996–2010), with whom he recorded 3 albums "Radio Fábula" (1996), "Turbo" (1999), and "La Vida es Más" (2010). Asunción (, , , Guarani: Paraguay) is the capital and the largest city of Paraguay. The city stands on the eastern bank of the Paraguay River, almost at the confluence of this river with the Pilcomayo River. ''7 Boxes'' (Spanish: ''7 Cajas'') is a Paraguayan thriller film directed by Juan Carlos Maneglia and Tana Schémbori. Initially the film was to be released in June 2011, but was delayed when the film was accepted as a competitor in the International Film Festival of San Sebastian in Spain. After months of work, the film was finally released on August 10, 2012, and received praise from critics and the public as well as breaking box office records in Paraguayan cinemas. ''7 Boxes'' won the "Films in Progress" in what was the first unanimous decision in the festival's history. The film participated at the Moscow International Film Festival in 2013.
