20th Century Studios, Inc., formerly 20th Century Fox, is an American film production and distribution company owned by the Walt Disney Studios, the film studios division of the Disney Entertainment business segment of the Walt Disney Company. It is headquartered at the Fox Studio Lot in the Century City area of Los Angeles, which is leased from Fox Corporation. Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures distributes and markets the films produced by this studio in theatrical markets. For over 80 years, 20th Century has been one of the major American film studios. It was formed in 1935 as Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corporation by the merger of Fox Film Corporation and Twentieth Century Pictures, and one of the original " Big Five" among eight majors of Hollywood's Golden Age. Twentieth Century Pictures, Inc. was an American independent film, independent Cinema of the United States, Hollywood motion picture production company created in 1933 by Joseph Schenck (the former president of United Artists) and Darryl F. Zanuck from Warner Bros., Warner Bros. Pictures (and co-founded by William Goetz from Fox Film Corporation, Fox Studios, and Raymond Griffith). The company product was distributed theatrically under United Artists (UA), and leased space at Samuel Goldwyn Studios. Schenck and Zanuck left UA over a stock dispute and began to negotiate with the Fox Film Corporation and the two companies merged that spring, becoming Twentieth Century-Fox in 1935.
