Fourth Arts Block
Fourth Arts Block (FAB) is the leadership organization for the East Village, Manhattan cultural district in New York City, United States, building a permanent home for the arts and preserving the neighborhood's creative character. FAB advocates for the District, directs marketing and outreach efforts, leads projects that contribute to sustainable development, and supports the development and capacity of its members. East Fourth Street is home to more than a dozen nonprofit cultural and community organizations, and was designated a Cultural District by Mayor of New York City, Mayor Michael Bloomberg in January 2006. “Downtown's Theater Row" contains 10 theater companies, two dance companies, four visual arts organizations, and two non-profit community development organizations that have worked to create a plan for the long-term development of the cultural buildings on the block. East Village, Manhattan
The East Village is a neighborhood on the East Side (Manhattan), East Side of Lower Manhattan in New York City, New York. It is roughly defined as the area east of the Bowery and Third Avenue, between 14th Street (Manhattan), 14th Street on the north and Houston Street (Manhattan), Houston Street on the south. The East Village contains three subsections: Alphabet City, Manhattan, Alphabet City, in reference to the single-letter-named avenues that are located to the east of First Avenue (Manhattan), First Avenue; Ukrainian Americans in New York City#Little Ukraine, Little Ukraine, near Second Avenue (Manhattan), Second Avenue and 6th and 7th Streets; and the Bowery, located around the street of the same name. Initially the location of the present-day East Village was occupied by the Lenape Native people, and was then divided into plantations by Dutch settlers.
