Forward Operating Base Kalsu
Forward Operating Base Kalsu, also known as 'FOB Kalsu', COS Kalsu or simply Camp Kalsu, was a U.S. Military installation in Iskandariya, Iraq, 20 miles south of Baghdad. It was officially closed by members of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, on December 12, 2011 as part of the US Army's withdrawal from Iraq. While under control of the Marines of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, two Marines, Lance Corporal Ryan Krieger and Lance Corporal Christopher Roberts are credited with saving the base from being taken over by Iraqi militias by using hand to hand combat to subdue three members of the group from infiltrating the camp in the early morning hours of September 19, 2004. 152nd Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 152nd Infantry Regiment is an infantry regiment in the Indiana Army National Guard, part of the 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (United States). History American Civil War In 1864, eleven infantry regiments were ordered to muster for one year of service in the American Civil War. Under that call, the 152nd Infantry Regiment mustered in Indianapolis, Indiana under the command of Colonel Whedon W. Griswold. The 152nd recruited in the 9th, 10th and 11th Congressional districts and raised 988 soldiers. The regiment left Indiana on March 18 for Harper's Ferry, West Virginia where it was assigned to the Army of the Shenandoah. 162nd Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 162nd Infantry Regiment is a regiment of the Oregon Army National Guard with headquarters in Springfield, Oregon. In January 2006 as part of the Army's transformation towards a modular force, the 1st Battalion, 162nd Infantry Regiment was inactivated. Many members continued to serve with the 2nd Battalion and other units within the 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team. Origins The 162nd Infantry Regiment traces its lineage back to 20 May 1887, when the Infantry Brigade of the Oregon National Guard was organized from existing state militia companies. The Oregon Army National Guard is a federally mandated and equipped military organization under the civilian direction of the Oregon Military Department, with the Governor of Oregon as its Commander-in-Chief. Bob Kalsu
James Robert Kalsu (April 13, 1945 – July 21, 1970) was an American football player who was an All-American tackle at the University of Oklahoma and an eighth-round selection in the 1968 NFL/AFL draft by the Buffalo Bills of the American Football League. Kalsu joined the U.S. Army as an officer after the 1968 season and was killed in action in the Vietnam War in 1970. Kalsu was one of two professional football players killed in the Vietnam War and the last to be killed serving as a soldier in a war until Pat Tillman in 2004.
