Forward Operating Base Edinburgh
FOB Edinburgh was an International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Forward Operating Base (FOB) operated by both the British Armed Forces and United States Armed Forces and located in Musa Qala District, Helmand Province, Afghanistan. The base was used under Operation Herrick (OP H). 3 Commando Brigade
3 Commando Brigade (3 Cdo Bde), previously called the 3rd Special Service Brigade, is a commando formation of the British Armed Forces. It is composed of the Royal Marine Commandos, alongside commando qualified sailors, soldiers and airmen from the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force. The brigade was formed on 14 February 1942, during the Second World War, with a mixture of Army Commando and Royal Marine Commando units, and was deployed to the South-East Asian Theatre of World War II to conduct operations against the invading forces of Imperial Japan, such as the Burma Campaign. 2d Battalion 5th Marines (2/5 or "Two Five") is an infantry battalion in the United States Marine Corps consisting of approximately 800 Marines and Sailors. The 11th Security Force Assistance Brigade is a brigade of the British Army which is intended to train and assist foreign forces. The 19th Brigade is an Army Reserve brigade of the British Army. As the 19th Infantry Brigade it fought in the First and Second world wars. The brigade became 19 Light Brigade in 2005, and moved to Northern Ireland following the end of Operation Banner and "normalisation" of British military operations in the province. Helmand (Pashto/Dari: ; ), also known as Hillmand, in ancient times, as Hermand and Hethumand, is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, in the south of the country. It is the largest province by area, covering area. The province contains 13 districts, encompassing over 1,000 villages, and roughly 1,446,230 settled people. The 52nd Infantry Brigade was a formation of the British Army, which was first formed in 1914 as part of Kitchener's Army.
