Forus Station
Forus is an industrial district in the Stavanger (city), city of Stavanger which lies in the southwestern part of the large municipality of Stavanger in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the borough of Hinna, along the Gandsfjorden and it stretches south and west to the municipalities of Sandnes and Sola, Norway, Sola. The name Forus originates from an old farm located in this area, part of which is currently used for harness racing. The drainage of the former lake Stokkavatnet (Forus), Stokkavatnet and the surrounding marsh area, from 1906 and onwards, added of new land for the nearby farms. In 1940, at the start of World War II, the German occupants initiated construction of Stavanger Airport, Forus, Stavanger Airport on this site. Stavanger, officially the Stavanger Municipality, is a city and municipality in Norway. It is the third largest city and third largest metropolitan area in Norway (through conurbation with neighboring Sandnes) and the administrative center of Rogaland county. Hinna is a borough of the city of Stavanger which lies in the southwestern part of the large municipality of Stavanger in Rogaland county, Norway. The borough includes the southernmost part of the city, bordering the city of Sandnes. The borough of Hillevåg lies to the north, the municipality of Sola lies to the west, and the Gandsfjorden lies to the east. Hillevåg was a part of the old municipality of Hetland until 1965. Gandsfjorden or Gandafjorden is a fjord in Rogaland county, Norway. The long Gandsfjorden is an arm off of the large Boknafjorden. It runs between the mainland and the Stavanger Peninsula in the western parts of the municipalities of Stavanger and Sandnes. The entire west and south side of the Gandsfjorden is highly developed and urban as this is the location of the cities of Stavanger and Sandnes, the third largest urban area in Norway. The east side of the fjord is far less developed and it has many mountains and peaks.
