Fortress Mountain Resort
Fortress Mountain was a ski resort in Kananaskis Country, Alberta, Canada. The resort is situated on a Provincial Crown Lease surrounded by Spray Valley and Peter Lougheed Provincial Parks. The original lease was granted in 1967, which pre-dates both Kananaskis Country itself by eleven years, as well as the provincial parks which now surround it. The resort is located near the Alberta Highway 40, Kananaskis Trail (115 km west of Calgary, Alberta, Calgary). It is owned and operated by Fortress Mountain Holdings Ltd. The resort is currently being used by Canadian climate researchers to gather data on the effects of climate change on the region. ''The Claim'' is a 2000 Western romance film directed by Michael Winterbottom and starring Peter Mullan, Wes Bentley, Sarah Polley, Nastassja Kinski and Milla Jovovich. Whistler Blackcomb
Whistler Blackcomb is a ski resort located in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. By many measures, it is the largest ski resort in North America and has the greatest uphill lift capacity. It features the Peak 2 Peak Gondola for moving between Whistler Mountain, Whistler and Blackcomb Peak, Blackcomb mountains at the top. Attendance at Whistler Blackcomb often surpasses two million visitors a year. Whistler was originally conceived as part of a bid to win the 1968 Winter Olympics. Although the bid failed, construction started anyway and the resort opened for the first time in January 1966. Blackcomb Mountain, originally a separate entity, opened for business in December 1980. A surface lift is a type of cable transport for mountain sports in which skiers, snowboarders, or mountain bikers remain on the ground as they are pulled uphill. While they were once prevalent, they have been overtaken in popularity by higher-capacity and higher-comfort aerial lifts, such as chairlifts and gondola lifts. Today, surface lifts are most often found on beginner slopes, small ski areas, and peripheral slopes. They are also often used to access glacier ski slopes because their supports can be anchored in glacier ice due to the lower forces and realigned due to glacier movement. ''The Revenant'' is a 2015 American epic western action drama film directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu. The screenplay by Mark L. Smith and Iñárritu is based in part on Michael Punke's 2002 novel '' The Revenant'', which describes frontiersman Hugh Glass's experiences in 1823. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy. An earlier movie '' Man in the Wilderness'' (1971) is also loosely based on the life of Hugh Glass, however Iñárritu does not credit it as an inspiration. In August 2001, Akiva Goldsman purchased Punke's manuscript.
