Fort Myers Subdivision (Seaboard Air Line Railroad)
The Seaboard Air Line Railroad's Fort Myers Subdivision was a railroad line in Southwest Florida running from Hull, Florida, Hull (near Fort Ogden, Florida, Fort Ogden) south to Fort Myers, Florida, Fort Myers and Naples, Florida, Naples. It also included two branch lines that ran from Fort Myers: one east to LaBelle, Florida, LaBelle, and one southwest to Punta Rassa, Florida, Punta Rassa. It began service in 1926 during the Florida land boom of the 1920s as part of an effort to expand the Seaboard Air Line's network further south in Florida. The line declined in the 1940s and was completely abandoned by 1952. Florida State Road 80
State Road 80 (SR 80) (also known as Palm Beach Boulevard in Lee County and Southern Boulevard in Palm Beach County) is a route linking US 41 Business in Fort Myers and State Road A1A in Palm Beach. The road is the northernmost of three linking Southwest Florida to South Florida via the Everglades (Alligator Alley and Tamiami Trail being the other two). Due to increasing traffic, State Road 80 has experienced upgrades and widening in various sections since 2000. Lakes Regional Park
Lakes Regional Park (often called Lakes Park) is a 279-acre public park located along Gladiolus Drive ( CR 865) just south of Fort Myers, Florida. It opened on April 21, 1984, and is operated by the Lee County Department of Parks and Recreation. The park was named after its main feature: 158 acres of man-made freshwater lakes. The lakes were formed by a rock mine that operated on the property in the 1960s. The park is part of the Great Florida Birding Trail as well as Lee County's Tour de Parks bicycle route along with the John Yarbrough Linear Park and other locations. Features A variety of wildlife can be spotted throughout Lakes Park, especially birds. The park includes about 2.5 miles of walking and biking trails running along the lakes. A scenic boardwalk carries the trails over the lakes. Buckingham Army Air Field is an inactive United States Army Air Forces base, approximately 10 miles east of Fort Myers, Florida. It was active during World War II as an Army Air Forces Training Command airfield. State Road 82 (SR 82) is a 29-mile-long east–west highway serving northern Lee and Collier County, Florida (and "clipping" the southwest corner of Hendry County). The Naples Seaboard Air Line Railway Station (also known as the Naples Railroad Depot or Seaboard Coast Line Railroad Depot) is a historic Seaboard Air Line Railway depot in Naples, Florida. It is located at 1051 5th Avenue, South. History The depot was constructed in 1927, when the Seaboard Air Line Railroad constructed its line to Naples. It was designed in the same Mediterranean Revival style the Seaboard Air Line used with its stations in Delray Beach, Deerfield Beach, Hialeah, and Homestead on the southeast coast of Florida (which were built around the same time), and is virtually identical to the Hialeah depot.
