Fort George Wright
Fort George Wright is a land area in the northwest United States, located in Spokane, Washington's West Hills neighborhood. It is named after General George Wright, who had been stationed in the area. History In 1895, local residents purchased the area then known as ''Twickenham Park'', which was deeded to the government for the construction of a military post. With Congress’ authorization, the $40,000 purchase of was made in 1896. Construction of the fort began in 1897 and it officially opened in 1899. Most of the buildings present were built between 1897 and 1906. In 1909-1910 the fort was used to imprison members of the Industrial Workers of the World arrested during the Spokane Free Speech Fight. George Floyd Protests
The George Floyd protests were a series of protests and civil unrest against police brutality and racism that began in Minneapolis on May 26, 2020, and largely took place during 2020. The civil unrest and protests began as part of international reactions to the murder of George Floyd, a 46-year-old African American man who was murdered during an arrest after Derek Chauvin, a Minneapolis Police Department officer, knelt on Floyd's neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds as three other officers looked on and prevented passers-by from intervening. Chauvin and the other three officers involved were later arrested. In April 2021, Chauvin was found guilty of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter. Joe Albi Stadium
Joe Albi Stadium is a former outdoor athletic stadium in the northwest United States, located in Spokane, Washington. In the northwest part of the city, just east of the Spokane River, it was primarily used for high school football, and as a secondary home field for the Washington State Cougars from its opening through 1983. Built and opened in 1950 on the site of a U.S. Army hospital, it was closed in 2022 and demolished, replaced with a new stadium in downtown Spokane, just northeast of the Spokane Arena. Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC) is a public community college in Spokane, Washington. It was established in 1967 and is part of the Community Colleges of Spokane. History The land upon which SFCC is located was given to the city after the U.S. Government declared Fort George Wright to be surplus. In 1960, it was proposed that a college be built upon the site.
