Forever Becoming
''Forever Becoming'' is the fifth studio album by American post-metal band Pelican. The album was released on October 15, 2013 through Southern Lord Records. ''Forever Becoming'' marks Pelican's first release to not include founding guitarist Laurent Schroeder-Lebec. Prior to the album's release, Pelican released an online stream of "Immutable Dusk" in July, 2013. " Deny the Absolute" was released as a stand-alone single in August, 2013, and later as a music video in December, 2014. An online stream of "The Cliff" was released in September, 2013, and was followed by ''The Cliff'' as a separate EP in 2015. Background and composition ''Forever Becoming'' is the first Pelican album since its inception in 2001 to not feature founding guitarist Laurent Schroeder-Lebec. Pelican (band)
Pelican is an American post-metal quartet from Chicago, Illinois. Established in 2001, the band is known for their atmospheric and almost entirely instrumental style. They have released six studio albums and six EPs. History and style The band is known for dense combinations of different melodies and extended track lengths. It may be classified as stoner rock, doom metal, or post-rock. Larry Herweg, Trevor de Brauw, and Laurent Schroeder-Lebec are also three members of the band Tusk. Pelican previously signed to Hydra Head Records but is currently signed with Southern Lord Records roster. Pelican toured with Wolves in the Throne Room to support their first EP for Southern Lord, ''Ephemeral'', released on June 6, 2009. ''What We All Come to Need'' was released on October 27, 2009. Yakuza is an American rock band formed in Chicago in 1999. They have been acclaimed for their incorporation of jazz and world music elements. History Yakuza was formed in 1999. The band debuted with its independently released album ''Amount to Nothing'' in 2000. The album was met with acclaim from ''Terrorizer'' and the ''Chicago Sun Times''. Yakuza followed its release with a tour alongside Candiria and Burnt by the Sun, eventually leading to a slot on the Vans Warped Tour. Such exposure led to a record contract and the release of their second album, ''Way of the Dead'', through Century Media Records in 2002. Mellotron
The Mellotron is an electro-mechanical musical instrument developed in Birmingham, England, in 1963. It is played by pressing its keys, each of which pushes a length of magnetic tape against a capstan, which pulls it across a playback head. As the key is released, the tape is retracted by a spring to its initial position. Different portions of the tape can be played to access different sounds. The Mellotron evolved from the similar Chamberlin, but could be mass-produced more efficiently. The first models were designed for the home and contained a variety of sounds, including automatic accompaniments. Bandleader Eric Robinson and television personality David Nixon helped promote the first instruments, and celebrities such as Princess Margaret were early adopters.
