Ford Star Revue
''Ford Star Revue'' is an American television variety series that was broadcast on NBC as the summer replacement for ''Kay Kyser's Kollege of Musical Knowledge'' from July 6, 1950, to September 28, 1950. It returned on January 4, 1951, and ended on March 29, 1951. Personnel Jack Haley was the show's host, and Mindy Carson was featured as a singer. Other regulars on the show were the Havel Brothers. Dr. Roy K. Marshall, and the Ted Adolphus Dancers. The Carl Hoff Orchestra provided music. When a kidney ailment hit Haley during the dress rehearsal for the February 15, 1951, episode, leaving him unable to perform, Carson took over the MC aspects of Haley's role. Bob Haymes, who was watching the rehearsal, performed the songs that had been scheduled for Haley, and Jack Albertson was recruited to substitute in Haley's comedy segments. Norman Lear
Norman Milton Lear (July 27, 1922December 5, 2023) was an American screenwriter and producer who produced, wrote, created, or developed over 100 shows. Lear created and produced numerous popular 1970s sitcoms, including ''All in the Family'' (1971–1979), '' Maude'' (1972–1978), '' Sanford and Son'' (1972–1977), '' One Day at a Time'' (1975–1984), ''The Jeffersons'' (1975–1985), and '' Good Times'' (1974–1979). His works were introducing political and social themes to the sitcom format. Lear has received many awards, including six Primetime Emmy Awards, two Peabody Awards, the National Medal of Arts in 1999, the Kennedy Center Honors in 2017, and the Golden Globe Carol Burnett Award in 2021. Colette Marchand
Colette Janine Marchand (29 April 1925 – 5 June 2015) was a French prima ballerina and actress. She was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1952 for her performance as Marie Charlet in ''Moulin Rouge'', directed by John Huston. During the height of her dance career she was considered one of the great dancers in Europe, known as ''Les jambes'' (The Legs), along with Violetta Elvin, Zizi Jeanmaire, Yvette Chauviré, Janine Charrat, and Margot Fonteyn. Marchand traveled around the world as a dancer and danced with many of the great ballet dancers of the 1940s and 1950s. Personal life Marchand was born in Paris, the daughter of Alice (née Lioret) and Roger Marchand. She began her career at the Paris Opera Ballet She married Jacques Bazire, the musical director for the Roland Petit Ballet. The ''Daily News'' is an American newspaper based in Jersey City, New Jersey. It was founded in 1919 by Joseph Medill Patterson in New York City as the ''Illustrated Daily News''. The ''San Mateo County Times'' was a daily newspaper published by the Media News Group. The paper is distributed throughout San Mateo County, Monday through Saturday. Before being sold in 1996, it had been published for over 100 years as the ''San Mateo Times'', originally published by Amphlett Publishing. ''San Mateo Times'' Amphlett also published a weekly "shopping" newspaper, ''The San Mateo Post'', on Wednesday mornings. ''Ford Festival'', also known as ''The James Melton Show'', is an hour-long television show, sponsored by Ford Motor Company, hosted by James Melton, and broadcast on NBC television, NBC Television beginning on April 5, 1951. The final show was aired June 26, 1952. This show was replaced by another Ford-sponsored NBC show, ''Ford Theatre, Ford Television Theatre'', from October 1952 to September 1956. The initial premise of the program was that each episode had a plot that tied together performances by Melton and other performers, including singer Dorothy Warenskjold, comedienne Barbara Jo Allen, Vera Vague, and comedic singers the Wiere Brothers. Cholly Atkins
Charles "Cholly" Atkins (born Charles Sylvan Atkinson; September 13, 1913 – April 19, 2003) was an American dancer and vaudeville performer, who later became noted as the house choreographer for the various artists on the label Motown. Biography Born in Pratt City, Alabama, Cholly began dancing in the late 1930s before his military service in 1942 during World War II. Upon leaving the U.S. Army, he first found fame as one-half of Atkins & Honi Coles, Coles, a top vaudeville dance act with partner Charles Coles, Charles "Honi" Coles, debuting at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York City, New York. Charles Coles
Charles "Honi" Coles (April 2, 1911 – November 12, 1992) was an American actor and tap dancer, who was inducted posthumously into the American Tap Dance Hall of Fame in 2003. He had a distinctive personal style that required technical precision, high-speed tapping, and a close-to-the-floor style where "the legs and feet did the work".
