Forcefield (band)
Forcefield was a late 1980s hard rock band focused on drummer Cozy Powell and guitarist Ray Fenwick. The band gave them the opportunity to play many covers including tracks from Jimi Hendrix, Cream,The Kinks and Deep Purple. Many other renowned musicians appeared as guests or were members of the band, including Tony Martin, Don Airey, Jan Akkerman, Laurence Cottle Laurence Cottle (born 16 December 1961) is a Welsh bass guitarist and composer. Barry St John
Eliza Janet Thomson (November 1943 – 24 July 2020), who recorded as Barry St. John, was a Scottish female singer who had a No. 47 hit in the UK Singles Chart in December 1965 with "Come Away Melinda". It was her only solo chart success. Biography Born and raised in Gallowgate, Glasgow, Scotland, Liz Thomson sang from a young age, and joined local beat group, Bobby Patrick's Big Six, before they moved to London in January 1962. The group toured Germany and played clubs in Hamburg, before Thomson decided to start a solo career and returned to England. As Barry St. John, she signed with Decca Records in 1964 and released her first single, a version of the Jarmels' " A Little Bit of Soap". Her follow-up, a cover version of the Newbeats' hit " Bread and Butter", made the German pop chart later that year. Although she continued to release singles in the UK, they had little success. Neil Murray (British Musician)
Philip Neil Murray (born 27 August 1950) is a Scottish musician, best known as the former bassist of Whitesnake, the Brian May Band, Black Sabbath, and Gary Moore. Career Early days Originally a drummer who started playing bass in 1967, Murray formed his first band with school friends in 1967 (Slap Happy and the Dum-Dums). His musical tastes were heavily influenced by the mid-1960s 'blues boom' bands and musicians, especially Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce, and later by Motown legend James Jamerson and Tim Bogert of Vanilla Fudge, Cactus and Beck, Bogert & Appice. Murray moved to bass shortly before studying graphic design at the London College of Printing. During 1973, Neil briefly played in Gilgamesh, a jazz-fusion band led by Alan Gowen. After his departure from Gilgamesh, Murray toured the US with Junior Hanson, following a recommendation from Jeff Beck's bass player Clive Chaman. Laurence Cottle
Laurence Cottle (born 16 December 1961) is a Welsh bass guitarist and composer. Career His solo recordings have been mostly in jazz and jazz fusion. He was a member of the fusion quartet The Fents and appeared on their second album, ''The Other Side'', released on the Passport Jazz label in 1987. He played with The Alan Parsons Project on '' Gaudi'', their final album for Arista, and on ''Freudiana'', Parsons's final collaboration with Eric Woolfson. He is the brother of Richard Cottle (also a musician), playing with him during his time with The Alan Parsons Project. Shortly after, he was hired by British heavy metal band Black Sabbath to play bass on the studio sessions that would become their 1989 album '' Headless Cross''. Jan Akkerman
Jan Akkerman (born 24 December 1946) is a Dutch guitarist. He first found international commercial success with the band Focus (band), Focus, which he co-founded with Thijs van Leer. After leaving Focus, he continued as a solo musician, adding jazz rock influences. Biography The son of a scrap iron trader, Akkerman was born in Amsterdam. He started playing the accordion before turning to the guitar. Around age ten he took guitar lessons and his first single, with the Friendship Sextet, was released in 1960, when he was thirteen years old. Akkerman won a scholarship to study at the Amsterdam Music Lyceum for five years, developing his composition and arranging skills. At fourteen he was in the rock band Johnny and his Cellar Rockers with his friend Pierre van der Linden. Both then joined The Hunters. Don Airey
Donald Smith Airey (born 21 June 1948) is an English musician. He came to prominence as the keyboardist of the rock band Rainbow during 1979–1982. He has been the keyboardist of Deep Purple, the band from which Rainbow was a spinoff, since 2002, after the retirement of Jon Lord.
