Foot Locker Cross Country Championships
The Eastbay-Foot Locker Cross Country Championships are a series of annual cross country running races held in various regions of the United States to determine the premier cross country runner in various age groups, but mainly serves to find the best prep (high school) cross country athlete in the country. The event began in 1979 by the F. W. Woolworth Company, which initially branded it as the Kinney Cross Country Championships, (for the Kinney Shoes division) at Morley Field Sports Complex in Balboa Park in San Diego, California, before Woolworth rebranded the event in 1993 to the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships for Woolworth's sporting goods company. For most people associated with the sport, the name was just shortened to Foot Locker or even abbreviated in agate results as FL (the ticker symbol of the company today). Cross country running is a sport in which teams and individuals run a race on open-air courses over natural terrain such as dirt or grass. Cole Hocker (born June 6, 2001) is an American middle-distance running, middle- and long-distance runner who specializes in the 1500 metres, 1500 meters. He won the gold medal in the event at the Athletics at the 2024 Summer Olympics – Men's 1500 metres, 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, setting an List of Olympic records in athletics, Olympic record and an List of North, Central American and Caribbean records in athletics, area record of 3:27.65. Dathan Ritzenhein
Dathan James Ritzenhein (born December 30, 1982) is a retired American long-distance runner, and current head coach of the On Athletics Club (OAC). He held the American record in the 5,000 metres (12:56.27) from 2009 to 2010, until it was broken by Bernard Lagat. He is a three-time national cross country champion with wins at the USA Cross Country Championships in 2005, 2008 and 2010. Formerly a Nike athlete for the majority of his professional career, Dathan joined the Hansons-Brooks Distance Project team in 2017. In early May 2020, he announced his retirement from competition. He signed with the Swiss shoe brand On shortly thereafter in June 2020 and currently acts as the coach for the On Athletics Club in Boulder, Colorado. Chris Solinsky (born December 5, 1984) is a retired American distance runner and an American college cross country coach. Solinsky is the current assistant coach of the Oregon Ducks cross country team at the University of Oregon. Among his more notable achievements, he won eight state championships in high school and five NCAA Division I championships at the University of Wisconsin. He was the American 10,000 meters record holder with a time of 26:59.60 as well as the first non-African to break the 27-minute barrier in the 10,000 m. Jordan Melissa Hogan (née Hasay) (born September 21, 1991) is an American distance runner. She attended Mission College Preparatory High School in San Luis Obispo and was unanimously selected 2008 Girls High School Athlete of the Year by the voting panel at ''Track and Field News''. Aisling Marie Cuffe (born September 12, 1993, in Cornwall, New York) is a long-distance runner from the United States. She competed in the 2012 World Junior Championships in Athletics placing 6th in 3000 meters. Cuffe ran 15:09 for the runner-up finish at 2012 Great Edinburgh International Cross Country. Lukas Verzbicas (born ''Lukas Veržbickas'', January 6, 1993 in Kaunas, Lithuania) is an American triathlete. Once a prominent high school track and cross country runner, Verzbicas set the U.S. high school national record in the two mile with a time of 8:29.46, in June 2011 after graduating from high school the month prior. He was also the fifth American high school boy to run a sub four-minute mile, running 3:59.71 a week after setting the national record in the two mile. Molly Seidel (born July 12, 1994) is an American long distance runner. Seidel represented the United States at the Great Edinburgh Cross Country in 2012, 2013, and 2018. In her first-ever marathon, Seidel placed second at the 2020 U.S. Marathon Olympic Trials. Later, she went on to win the bronze medal in her third career marathon at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Edward Cheserek (born 2 February 1994) is a Kenyan distance runner. He is a 17-time NCAA champion collegiate distance runner for the University of Oregon. Cheserek was the most highly recruited high school distance runner in the nation out of Saint Benedict's Preparatory School in New Jersey where he was named the Gatorade 2012-2013 National Cross Country Runner of the Year. In 2013, Cheserek became the first freshman in Oregon history to win the NCAA National Cross Country Championships. Anna Rohrer (born February 24, 1997) is an American long-distance runner and former student-athlete at the University of Notre Dame. She won four high school national championships and was named the Foot Locker female cross country athlete of the year in 2015. High school Rohrer attended Mishawaka High School, in Mishawaka, Indiana, where she was a star track and cross country athlete. Grant Jackson Fisher (born April 22, 1997) is an American middle- and long-distance runner who is the world record holder in the short track 3000 m and 5000 m. Fisher also holds American records in the 3000 m, two mile, and 10,000 m events. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Fisher won bronze medals in the 5000 m and 10,000 m, becoming the first American to medal in both events at an Olympic Games. In high school, Fisher was named Gatorade Player of the Year for cross country for the 2013–2014 and 2014–2015 seasons.
