Follow Me (novel)
''Follow Me'' is Kathleen Barber's second novel. Her first novel ''Are You Sleeping'', published in 2017, was adapted into the well reviewed television series ''Truth Be Told''. Where her first novel revolved around the reactions of people to new evidence found by a podcaster, looking into the case of a man wrongfully convicted of murder, ''Follow Me'' revolves around the life of a prolific user of social media, with a large number of followers. In an interview on a ''CBS'' affiliate Barber said her protagonist learns ''"We’re Not All Friends Online"''. Barber has said that, even though she is a lawyer, prior to the research she did when writing this novel, she had no idea how vulnerable ordinary people were to having their microphones and cameras surreptitiously monitored by simple widely available tools. Kathleen Barber
Kathleen Barber is an American writer and non-practicing lawyer. Television rights to her 2017 debut novel ''Are You Sleeping'' were sold to Hello Sunshine, and a series called "Truth Be Told", based on the book, was produced for ''Apple TV+'' and debuted in December 2019. Barber was raised in Galesburg, Illinois. She earned a Bachelor's degree at University of Illinois, where she was initiated into Alpha Gamma Delta, and her J.D. at the Northwestern University School of Law. She worked for a number of years as an attorney in firms in Chicago and New York, where she focused her practice on bankruptcy law. Barber describes how she had been writing, as a hobby, for years, but the decision she and her husband made to quit their jobs, and travel around the world, triggered her completion of ''Are You Sleeping''. ''Are You Sleeping'', the debut novel of Kathleen Barber, is a murder mystery. Barber draws on her knowledge of the law, practicing in Chicago and New York. Truth Be Told (2019 TV Series)
''Truth Be Told'' is an American legal/crime drama television series. The series was created by Nichelle Tramble Spellman for Apple TV+ and is based on Kathleen Barber's 2017 debut novel ''Are You Sleeping''. Spellman also acts as executive producer and writes for the show. Unlike the book, Poppy Parnell (Octavia Spencer) plays the main role, as a podcaster who revisits the case that made her famous with the hope of finally getting to the truth. The series premiered on December 6, 2019. The soundtrack, composed by John Paesano, was released by Lakeshore Records on the same day. New York's Paley Center also aired episodes of the show. The second season began in August 2021. In December 2021, the series was renewed for a third season, which premiered on January 20, 2023 and concluded on March 24, 2023.
