George Follmer
George Richard Follmer (born January 27, 1934) is an American former auto racing driver, and one of the most successful road racers of the 1970s. He was born in Phoenix, Arizona. His family moved to California when he was just an infant. Career Follmer began his career running a Volkswagen Beetle in Gymkhana competition in parking lots in the San Gabriel Valley of Southern California. Follmer raced in the USAC Championship Car series in the 1967-1971 and 1974 seasons, with 25 career starts, including the 1969-1971 Indianapolis 500 races. He finished in the top ten 11 times, with his one victory in 1969 at Phoenix International Raceway. His best finish at the Indianapolis 500 was in 1971. He started 29th and finished in the 15th position driving the Grant King Racer's turbo Offy. In 1973, Follmer competed in Formula One with Don Nichols' UOP Shadow team. Follmer is a fictional character in the American Fox television series ''The X-Files'', a science fiction series about a government conspiracy to hide or deny the truth of Alien existence. Follmer was introduced during the last season of the show, as an ex-lover to main character Monica Reyes (Annabeth Gish). Follmer was portrayed by British actor Cary Elwes. Clive Allen Follmer (October 1, 1931 – August 14, 2016) was an All-Big Ten Conference basketball player at the University of Illinois during a career that spanned from 1950 to 1953, followed by a two year stint in the Chicago White Sox Minor League affiliate, Topeka Owls and the Waterloo White Hawks. High school A native of Forrest, Illinois, Follmer attended Forrest Township High School from 1945–46 to 1948–49. He was a forward who led the team to three consecutive Illinois High School Association state basketball tournament regional championships in 1947, 1948 and 1949. Follmer was an outstanding high school basketball player, where he led the Eskimos to consecutive IHSA boys' "Sweet-16" games in 1947, 1948 and 1949, losing each year. Frederick Voris Follmer (December 13, 1885 – May 3, 1971) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania and the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. Cyrus Brown "Cy" Follmer Jr. was an American broadcaster. Early life Follmer was born on December 14, 1933, in Berlin, where his father was U.S. Vice Consul. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He later graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in broadcasting. Broadcasting After graduating, Follmer worked for KASE-FM in Austin, Texas. In 1961, he moved to KXYZ in Houston. In 1963, he began hosting the ''After Hours Show'', a 2 to 3 am jazz program on KTOK in Oklahoma City. He then worked for WSVA AM, WSVA-FM, and WSVA-TV. Follmer, Clogg and Company Umbrella Factory, also known as Van Sciver Building, is a historic factory building located at Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. It was built between about 1880 and 1905, and is a U-shaped, brick complex measuring approximately 144 feet by 250 feet. It housed Follmer, Clogg and Company, a manufacturer of umbrellas and parachutes, until the 1940s. In 1944, it was acquired by J.B. Scorpions are a German hard rock band formed in Hanover in 1965 by guitarist Rudolf Schenker.
