Submachine Gun
A submachine gun (SMG) is a magazine (firearms), magazine-fed automatic firearm, automatic carbine designed to fire handgun cartridges. The term "submachine gun" was coined by John T. Thompson, the inventor of the Thompson submachine gun, to describe its design concept as an automatic firearm with notably less firepower than a machine gun (hence the prefix "wikt:sub-, sub-"). As a machine gun must fire rifle cartridges to be classified as such, submachine guns are not considered machine guns. The submachine gun was developed during World War I (1914–1918) as a Close-quarters battle, close quarter offensive weapon, mainly for trench raiding. At its peak during World War II (1939–1945), millions of submachine guns were made for shock troops, assault troops and auxiliaries whose military doctrine, doctrines emphasized close-quarters combat, close-quarter suppressive fire. FMG-9
The Magpul FMG-9 is a prototype folding submachine gun, designed by Magpul Industries in 2008. It is made out of polymer in place of metal, reducing weight. The FMG-9 never left the prototype stage, and never saw widespread production on any level, as the item was only produced by Magpul as a proof of concept. Airsoft In 2010, Magpul Industries' PTS (Professional Training and Simulation) Division in cooperation with KWA Performance Industries released the FPG (Folding Pocket Gun). The FPG is almost identical to the FMG-9 prototype, but contains the firing mechanism of an airsoft KWA G18C replica. The FPG fires 6mm pellets with a magazine capacity of 49 rounds. FDP In 2021, Magpul unveiled the FDC-9 (Folding Defensive Carbine) and FDP-9 (Folding Defensive Pistol), two redesigned versions of the FMG-9, that were planned to release in 2023. Hotchkiss Type Universal
The Hotchkiss "type Universal" is a submachine gun manufactured in France after World War II. It was originally designed as a semi-automatic police carbine but a full automatic version was made. It fires from a closed bolt. Its most unique feature however is that it folds up into a very compact package and unfolds easily and relatively quickly. The semi-automatic version was exported in very limited numbers to many countries. Many were also exported to Venezuela and Morocco. UC-9
The UC-9, also known as the DEB M21, is a foldable submachine gun designed by Utah Connor in the mid 1970s. Based on an Uzi 9mm and using unmodified Uzi magazines, the gun can be folded in half into a compact box design, with the initial production run styled to resemble contemporary portable transistor radios. It fires exclusively in fully automatic mode. Only nine guns were created in the original production run, in addition to the prototype, due to the Hughes Amendment halting their production. However almost a hundred additional receiver (firearms), receivers had been built and registered by this point, 76 of which were subsequently bought by Michael Shyne and completed in another run.
