Folcmar (bishop Of Utrecht)
Folcmar (died 10 December 990), also named Poppo, was a bishop of Utrecht from 976 to 990. Folcmar was the son of the Saxon count Adalbero and an uncle of bishop Bernward of Hildesheim, a fervent builder who was responsible for the famous Bernward Doors, bronze doors and the ''Christussäule'' (Bernward Column). Folcmar was a member of the Chapter (religion), Chapter in Hildesheim, and in 975 he became Chancellor of Otto II, Holy Roman Emperor, who afterwards appointed him to the bishopric of Utrecht. When Otto II's cousin, Henry II, Duke of Bavaria, revolted in a bid to seize the throne, he was defeated, stripped of all his possessions and placed in the custody of bishop Folcmar. After Otto II's death, Henry was released, but he soon made another attempt at the throne against the infant Otto III, Holy Roman Emperor. This kept Folcmar involved in the succession issue. Folcmar was buried in the St. Martin's Cathedral, Utrecht, Dom Church of Utrecht. References This info was part ...

The Source (novel)
''The Source'' is a historical novel by James A. Michener published in 1965. It is a survey of the history of the Jewish people and the land of Israel from pre-monotheistic days through the birth of the modern State of Israel and up until 1964. ''The Source'' uses, for its central device, a fictional '' tell'' (mound/hill) in northern Israel called "Makor" (, "source"). Prosaically, the name comes from a freshwater well just north of Makor, but symbolically it stands for much more, historically and spiritually. Unlike most Michener novels, this book is not in strict chronological order. A parallel frame story set in Israel in the 1960s supports the historical timeline. Archaeologists digging at the ''tell'' at Makor uncover artifacts from each layer, which then serve as the basis for a chapter exploring the lives of the people involved with that artifact. The book follows the story of the Family of Ur from a Stone Age family whose wife begins to believe that there is a superna ...

Rhineland Massacres
The Rhineland massacres, also known as the German Crusade of 1096 or ''Gzerot Tatnó'' (, "Edicts of 4856"), were a series of mass murders of Jews perpetrated by mobs of French and German Christians of the People's Crusade in the year 1096 (4856 in the Hebrew calendar). These massacres are often seen as the first in a sequence of antisemitic events in Europe which culminated in the Holocaust. Prominent leaders of crusaders involved in the massacres included Peter the Hermit and especially Count Emicho. As part of this persecution, the destruction of Jewish communities in Speyer, Worms and Mainz was noted as the ''Hurban Shum'' (Destruction of Shum). These were new persecutions of the Jews in which peasant crusaders from France and Germany attacked Jewish communities. A number of historians have referred to the violence as pogroms. Background Though no Crusades explicitly targeted Jews, the fervor for holy war sometimes turned into an outbreak of anti-Jewish violence in ...
