Fokofpolisiekar (, ''Fuckoffpolicecar'') is an Afrikaans alternative rock band from Bellville, Western Cape, Bellville, near Cape Town, South Africa. Due to the obscenity in the name, they are also commonly known simply as Polisiekar or FPK. Band history The band was formed in April 2003, initially as a joke to shock the mostly Conservatism, conservative Afrikaner community with its name and also the notion of an Afrikaans alternative band. All the members were well known in local underground music circles from their work in the bands New World Inside, 7th Breed, and 22 Stars. In late 2003, they released their first EP, ''As Jy Met Vuur Speel Sal Jy Brand'' (If You Play With Fire You Will Burn), soon after forming. One of the tracks from the EP, ''Hemel op die Platteland'' (Heaven in the Countryside), made history when it became the first Afrikaans song to be officially playlisted on national radio station 5FM. "As Jy Met Vuur Speel Sal Jy Brand" (; ''If you play with fire, you will get burned'') is the debut CD of the South African punk rock band Fokofpolisiekar. It is a seven track EP released in 2003 by Rhythm Records in South Africa. In 2004, it was reissued with a bonus track, "Fokofpolisiekar", and the music video for "Hemel op die platteland". The original version of the EP was released with a white cover, while the reissue had a black one. In 2013, it was reissued on 10" vinyl for the band's tenth anniversary, with new cover art. This edition was reissued in 2018. Both versions included the hidden material from the CD releases. In 2023, the album was reissued on vinyl, with the original white variant of the CD cover art and a new song, "Blades", which was originally written during the writing sessions for the band's debut full-length album ''Lugsteuring''. "Brand Suid-Afrika", which can directly be translated to "Burn South Africa," is a 4-track EP by South African punk rock band Fokofpolisiekar. It was released by Rhythm Records in 2006 and includes a music video of a previously released single, "Hemel Op Die Platteland (Acoustic)". The CD is about 14 minutes long without the music video. Song interpretation The writer states that his waking life is through the memories of old men, as if he has nothing to be proud of, no memories or identity of his own. This appears to be a reference that many of the older people in South Africa are still clinging to the Apartheid past and that the younger generation does not have an identity of their own but lives in the shadows of the past. Francois Badenhorst (; born 18 September 1980), better known by his stage name Francois Van Coke, is a South African singer-songwriter, rose to fame as the front man of South African rock bands Fokofpolisiekar and Van Coke Kartel. On the 8 April 2015, Francois launched his self-titled debut solo album and kicked his solo career into gear with the release of "Toe Vind Ek Jou" featuring Karen Zoid. It was the first Afrikaans album and single to simultaneously jump to number one positions on the South African iTunes Store. The song was downloaded more than 20,000 times on iTunes, achieving Platinum status as a single. The music video for "Toe Vind Ek Jou" was viewed over a million times within six-month and was announced as the biggest Afrikaans music video of 2015. Encounters South African International Documentary Festival (Encounters) is the premier documentary festival in Africa and one of the oldest film festivals on the continent.
