Flying With Angels
''Flying with Angels'' is the tenth studio album by American singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega. It was released on May 2, 2025, through Cooking Vinyl. The album was produced by guitarist and longtime collaborator Gerry Leonard. It is Vega's first album of all-new material since 2014's '' Tales from the Realm of the Queen of Pentacles''. Describing the album's lyrical content, Vega stated: "Each song on the album takes place in an atmosphere of struggle. Struggle to survive, to speak, to dominate, to win, to escape, to help someone else, or just live." The first single from ''Flying with Angels'', entitled "Rats", was released on September 17, 2024. The album was announced on March 4, 2025, alongside the release of its second single, "Speakers' Corner". "Chambermaid" and "Alley" were the last two singles. Suzanne Nadine Vega ( Peck; born July 11, 1959) is an American singer-songwriter of Folk music, folk-inspired music. Vega's music career spans 40 years. In the mid-1980s and 1990s she released four singles that entered the Top 40 charts in the UK, "Marlene on the Wall", "Left of Center (Suzanne Vega song), Left of Center", "Luka (song), Luka" and "No Cheap Thrill". "Tom's Diner", which was originally released as an ''a cappella'' recording on Vega's second studio album, ''Solitude Standing'' (1987), was remixed in 1990 as a dance track by English electronic music, electronic duo DNA (duo), DNA with her vocals, and it became a Top 10 hit in five countries. The original ''a cappella'' recording of the song was used as a test during the creation of the MP3 format. Cooking Vinyl is a British independent record label, based in Acton, London, England. It was founded in 1986 by former manager and booking agent Martin Goldschmidt and his business partner Pete Lawrence. Goldschmidt remains the current owner and chairman, while Rob Collins is managing director. Gerry Leonard
Gerry Leonard (born 26 February 1962) is an Irish guitarist known for his harmonic and ambient guitar style and for his work with David Bowie, Suzanne Vega, Rufus Wainwright, Laurie Anderson, Duncan Sheik and many others. He has a solo project called Spooky Ghost. He lives in New York. Early life Leonard was born and raised in Clontarf, Dublin. He played in bands as a teen and was influenced by a mixture of Led Zeppelin, punk, post-punk, and whatever was playing on ''Top of the Pops''. He worked as a tape operator in Lombard Sound Studios; one of his jobs involved recording a demo tape by a 16-year-old Sinéad O'Connor. ''Tales from the Realm of the Queen of Pentacles'' is the eighth studio album by the American singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega. Released in February 2014, it was Vega's first album of new material in seven years. The album features contributions from Larry Campbell and Tony Levin (bassist from King Crimson and Peter Gabriel). Although Vega's music had been sampled by various artists in the past, the album contains Vega's first own attempt at sampling with the track "Don't Uncork What You Can't Contain" which includes interpolations from 50 Cent's 2005 song "Candy Shop". The album entered the UK Albums Chart at No. 37, the first time one of Vega's studio albums reached the UK Top 40 since 1992. It received generally favorable reviews. The album appeared under Vega's own label, Amanuensis Productions, and was distributed by Cooking Vinyl.
