Conny Van Rietschoten
Cornelis "Conny" van Rietschoten (23 March 1926 – 17 December 2013) was a Dutch yacht skipper who was the only skipper to win the Whitbread Round the World Race twice. Background Born in Rotterdam, Van Rietschoten had been sailing since he was three, and continued until tuberculosis interrupted both his sailing and business career in the early 1960s. He spent a year recovering in a Swiss sanatorium, and then threw all his energies into developing the family electrical engineering business, Van Rietschoten & Houwens. A circumnavigation was something his father, Jan Jacob, had always wanted to do but never found the time. Joey Allen (sailor)
Joey Allen is a New Zealand sailor who competed in multiple America's Cups. Born in Te Awamutu, Allen sailed in the 1981–82 Whitbread Round the World Race on the winner, '' Flyer II''. In 1984 Allen finished second in the 470 World Championships alongside Chris Dickson. He crewed boats that won the ISAF Open Match Racing World Championship in 1988 and 1990. He sailed on ''Yamaha'' in the 1993–94 Whitbread Round the World Race. He then joined Team New Zealand and was the bowman on ''NZL 32'' when it won the 1995 America's Cup. Allen was part of Team New Zealand's successful defence at the 2000 America's Cup. He then became a coach and was with the team for their 2003 and 2007 America's Cup campaigns. Grant Dalton
Grant Stanley Dalton (born 1 July 1957) is a New Zealand sailor who has competed in five Whitbread Round the World Races and currently manages Team New Zealand. Background Dalton is a professional sailor who started sailing at the age 8 in the P Class and soon started racing as a member of Maraetai Sailing Club. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 1995 New Year Honours, for services to yachting. He was shortlisted in 2001 by the International Sailing Federation for the ISAF World Sailor of the Year Awards. Onne Van Der Wal
Onne van der Wal is a Dutch marine photographer and writer. Onne van der Wal Photography Gallery is named after him. Early life and career Born in the Netherlands, Onne van der Wal relocated to South Africa with his family as a toddler in 1959. He lived in the then apartheid-governed country until he completed his education in 1979. He is trained as a machinist. His career began in sailing, but after a pivotal encounter with a ''Sail Magazine'' editor in 1981. He was on board '' Flyer II'' which won the 1981–1982 Whitbread Round the World Race. In 1980, van der Wal visited Newport, Rhode Island with a friend and decided to settle there by 1985.
