Floresta is a city in the Brazilian States of Brazil, state of Pernambuco. It is situated at latitude 08º36'04" south and at longitude 38º34'07" west, at an altitude of 316 metres. Its population was estimated in 2020 to be 33,184 inhabitants, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. It has an area of 3644.17 km2. History Floresta ("forest") traces its origins to the 18th-century farms of Curralinho and Paus Pretos, but it was the Fazenda Grande ("big farm"), on the right bank of the rio Pajeú (Pajeú river), that saw the first inhabitants of Floresta. In the second half of the 18th century, the farm served as a temporary shelter for the cattle that came from Bahia to supply Pernambuco sugar devices with animal power. Floresta (meaning ''Forest'' in Portuguese) is a neighbourhood (''bairro'') in the city of Porto Alegre, the state capital of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Floresta is a town and municipality in Boyacá Department, Colombia, part of the Tundama Province, a subregion of Boyacá. Floresta is situated on the Altiplano Cundiboyacense in the Eastern Ranges of the Colombian Andes. It borders Santa Rosa de Viterbo, Cerinza and Betéitiva in the north, in the east Busbanzá and Corrales in the west Santa Rosa de Viterbo and Nobsa in the south. History Before the Spanish conquest of the highlands of Colombia, the area of Floresta was inhabited by the Muisca, organized in their Muisca Confederation. In those days Floresta, together with Santa Rosa de Viterbo, was called Tobasía which is still the name of a corregimiento of the village. Floresta is a neighbourhood located to the west of Buenos Aires. The district developed and was named after Buenos Aires Western Railway's first terminal station's area called ''La Floresta'', in 1857. Avellaneda Park, the neighborhood's most important, was built in 1914 on grounds that once belonged to a monastery. An early Italian immigrant to Argentina, Felix Barabino, built his home in Floresta and boasted the neighborhood's most imposing residence at the time. La Floresta is a city and resort on the Costa de Oro (Coast of Gold) of the Canelones Department in Uruguay. The Floresta Formation (, Df) is a geological formation of the Altiplano Cundiboyacense in the Eastern Ranges of the Colombian Andes. The sequence of siltstones, shales, coquinas and sandstone beds dates to the Devonian period; Late Emsian, Eifelian and Early Givetian epochs, and has a maximum thickness of . The unit is highly fossiliferous; brachiopods, bryozoans, gastropods, trilobites, corals and bivalves have been found in the Floresta Formation. Some fragments of Placoderm fish fossils were found in the Floresta Formation, while the overlying Cuche Formation is much richer in fish biodiversity.
