Flor Alpaerts
Flor Alpaerts (Antwerp, 12 September 1876 – Antwerp, 5 October 1954) was a Belgian conductor, pedagogue and composer. He graduated from the ''Vlaamse Muziekschool'' in 1901. He was artistic director of the Peter Benoit Foundation, co-director of the Royal Flemish Opera and a member of the Royal Academy of Belgium. As a composer he became the leading Flemish impressionist, with the symphonic poem ''Pallieter'' (1921-1924). Alpaerts left behind an extensive body of work. He first composed in an impressionist style, later expressionist, and finally neo-classical. He drew his inspiration from Flemish life. Peter Benoit was his great model, but he adapted Benoit's principles and gave Flemish music a modern mode of expression and a contemporary face. He wrote above all for the symphony orchestra, but he also wrote incidental music, an opera, many Flemish songs, chamber music and work for brass bands and wind ensembles. Flor Ramos Contemplacion (January 7, 1953 – March 17, 1995) was a Filipina domestic worker executed in Singapore for murder. Her execution severely strained relations between Singapore and the Philippines, and caused many Filipinos to vent their frustrations over the plight of Overseas Filipino Workers towards both states' governments. Early life Contemplacion was born in San Pablo City, Laguna, Philippines. Background of case On 4 May 1991, Delia Mamaril Maga (born on October 6, 1955 in Tarlac), a Filipino domestic worker, was found strangled to death in Singapore. A three-year-old boy, Nicholas Huang, whom Maga had been taking care of, was discovered drowned. Flor Isava Fonseca (20 May 1921 – 25 July 2020) was a Venezuelan sportswoman, journalist, writer and TV presenter as well as prominent member of Venezuelan society. For a number of years, she was the vice president of the Venezuelan Red Cross, following in the footsteps of her mother, who had been appointed president of this institution years before. She is also an active member of the Venezuelan associated press committee and has devoted much of her time and effort in helping the poor, the blind and prisoners from all over the country. Flor Joosen (born Turnhout, 30 June 1952) is a Belgian businessman, who became well known for his caviar business. Since 1 July 2007, he is also president of UNIZO. Education Flor Joosen graduated in economics at the Instituut voor Hoger Niet-Universitaire Studies (IHNUS) in Ghent. Career Flor Joosen descends from a family of millers, and the windmill in the Bokrijk museum is an old mill of the Joosen family business. Flor María Chalbaud Castro (3 July 1921 – 12 January 2013) was First Lady of Venezuela between 2 December 1952 and 23 January 1958 and one of the founders of the Bolivarian Ladies Society. Flor Alba Núñez Vargas (ca. 1990 – 10 September 2015), a Colombian journalist with La Preferida Estero radio station and several TV stations, was murdered in Pitalito, Huila Department, Colombia, where she received death threats before her murder. Career Núñez was well-known as local radio host for her daily news program "Red Noticias" with La Perferida Estero station in Pitalito. She also worked for the local Pitalito Channel 6, Nación TV out of Neiva and La Nación newspaper. She had received death threats throughout her career, and one of the most notable was in 2015 after she reported on an animal abuse incident. Franciscus Florentinus Peeters, Baron Peeters (4 July 1903 – 4 July 1986) was a Belgian composer, organist and academic teacher. He was director of the Conservatorium in Antwerp, Belgium, and organist at Mechelen Cathedral from 1923 to his death in 1986. Biography Born and raised in the village of Tielen (in the Kempen region, just on the Belgian side of the Belgian-Dutch border), Peeters was the youngest child in a family of eleven.
