Floor Ball
Floorball (also known by other names) is a sport played with five players and a goalkeeper in each team. It is played indoors with sticks and a hollow plastic ball with holes. Matches are played in three periods. The sport of bandy also played a role in the game's development. The game was invented in Sweden in the late 1960s. The basic rules were established in 1979 when the first floorball club in the world, Sala IBK, from Sala, was founded in Sweden. Official rules for matches were first written down in 1981. The sport is organized internationally by the International Floorball Federation (IFF). As of 2019, there were about 377,000 registered floorball players worldwide, up from around 300,000 in 2014. Events include an annual Champions Cup, EuroFloorball Cup and EuroFloorball Challenge for club teams and the biennial World Floorball Championships with separate divisions for men and women. International Floorball Federation
The International Floorball Federation (IFF) is the worldwide governing body for the sport of floorball. It was founded on 12 April 1986 in Huskvarna, Sweden, by representatives from the national floorball associations of Finland, Sweden and Switzerland. It is based in Helsinki, Finland. The president of the federation is Filip Šuman. The federation became a member of Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) in 2000. It is recognized by the International Olympic Committee, IOC and is an ordinary member of the Association of IOC Recognised International Sports Federations, ARISF since 2008. F-liiga (women)
F-liiga is the highest-tier of floorball for women in Finland. The league was founded as Salibandyn naisten SM-sarja ( English: ''Women's Floorball Finnish Championship'') in 1988 by the Finnish Floorball Federation (SSBL). The former name, ''Naisten Salibandyliiga'', was introduced for the 2000–01 season. The ''F-liiga'' is operated by ''SSBL Salibandy Oy'', a limited corporation owned entirely by the Finnish Floorball Federation. The 1996 Men's Floorball Championships were the first men's Floorball World Championships. It was held in May 1996 in Sweden, and was won by the host nation. United States Floorball Association
The United States Floorball Association (USFbA) is the highest governing body for floorball in the United States of America. The USFbA is a self-governed organization, recognized by both state and federal governments. It is based in Incline Village, NV. Organization The USFbA is divided into 14 regional branches. Each regional branch has a director who is in charge of floorball for that region. The USFbA has been a member of the International Floorball Federation (IFF) since 1993. As of June 30, 2008, there are 920 registered floorball players in the US, which is one-and-a-half times the total of registered players in 2007. Floor Hockey
Floor hockey is a broad term for several indoor floor game codes which involve two teams using a stick and type of ball or disk. Disks are either open or closed but both designs are usually referred to as "pucks". These games are played either on foot or with wheeled skates. Variants typically reflect the style of ice hockey, field hockey, bandy or some other combination of sport. Games are commonly known by various names including cosom hockey, ball hockey, floorball, or simply floor hockey. Two floor hockey variants involve the use of wheeled skates and are categorized as roller sports under the title of roller hockey. World Games
The World Games are an international multi-sport event comprising sports and sporting disciplines that are not contested in the Olympic Games. They are usually held every four years, one year after a Summer Olympic Games, over the course of 11 days. The World Games are governed by the International World Games Association, under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee. In the most recent editions, between 25 and 34 sports have been included in the official program.
