Flipside TV
''Flipside TV'' was a television programme broadcast by Channel 4, Nation 277 and Paramount Comedy in the United Kingdom, which aired from 2003 to 2004. It was presented mainly by Richard Bacon (also the show's founder, and executive producer) and guest hosts, including Justin Lee Collins and Iain Lee. It was directed by Brendan Sheppard. The format was created by David Owen and Jay Pond-Jones based on an original idea by Chas Bayfield, which had been posted on the free ideas website Idea a Day. The show was broadcast live and included a presenter and three guests, each with their own television and digital satellite receiver. The guests would "flip" through the many hundreds of satellite channels looking for something interesting. If something interesting was found, whatever it was then broadcast live on the show with the guests providing their own mainly comic commentary. Richard Paul Bacon (born 30 November 1975) is an English television and radio presenter. He has worked as a reporter or presenter on numerous television shows, including ''Blue Peter'', ''The Big Breakfast'', on ITV's '' Good Morning Britain'' as a stand-in presenter, and on radio stations including Capital FM, Xfm London and BBC Radio Five Live. Justin Lee Collins (born 28 July 1974) is an actor and former radio and television presenter from Bristol, England. Collins began his career as a stand up comedian in the 1990s when he was in his late teens. He then presented a number of TV shows. From 2003 to 2005 he hosted his own radio show on XFM. He is a partner in the London-based production companies Studio Sixty Billion and Colour TV. Pond-Jones started his career in advertising, working for both D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles and GGT. Idea A Day was a web-based ideas bank founded in London in August 2000 by music executive David Owen, advertising executives Chas Bayfield and Becky Clarke, and teacher Rupert Kaye in partnership with the web development company Fortune Cookie. The web site published one original idea every day. In 2003, a book of the best 500 ideas was published by John Wiley & Sons as ''The Big Idea Book''. One idea published on Idea A Day is Flipside TV, a live TV review show in which a host and three guests watched television live as it happened and recommended to viewers what they could or should be watching on the other side. Midnight is the transition time from one day to the next – the moment when the date changes, on the local official clock time for any particular jurisdiction.
