Flex-Able
''Flex-Able'' is the debut studio album by American virtuoso guitarist Steve Vai. This was his first as a solo artist, and was created in Stucco Blue, a shed converted into a studio in Vai's old back garden. It is very different from many of his other albums, and is largely influenced by Frank Zappa. ''Flex-Able'' does not rely as much on massive guitar arrangements and shred moments as the rest of his output from the 1990s onwards, with the exception of ''Leftovers'' which is a compilation of bonus tracks and remasters from his sessions at 'Stucco Blue'. The cover of the May 2009 issue of ''Guitar World'' features a photograph of Vai in a pose similar to the album's cover, including the bending guitar neck. Steve Vai
Steven Siro Vai (; born June 6, 1960) is an American guitarist, composer, songwriter, and producer. A three-time Grammy Award winner and fifteen-time nominee, Vai started his music career in 1978 at the age of eighteen as a transcriptionist for Frank Zappa, and played in Zappa's band from 1980 to 1983. He embarked on a solo career in 1983 and has released eight solo albums to date. He has recorded and toured with Alcatrazz, David Lee Roth, and Whitesnake, as well as recording with artists such as Public Image Ltd, Mary J. Blige, Spinal Tap, Alice Cooper, Motörhead, and Polyphia. Additionally, Vai has toured with live-only acts G3, Zappa Plays Zappa, and the Experience Hendrix tour, as well as headlining international tours. Vai has been described as a "highly individualistic player" and part of a generation of "heavy rock and metal virtuosi who came to the fore in the 1980s". Flex-Able Leftovers
''Flex-Able Leftovers'' was a limited edition 10" vinyl EP by American composer and guitarist, Steve Vai. It was leftover material from the recordings done during the "Flex-Able" days (1982 to 1984) and originally released in 1984 (see 1984 in music). In this regard, it can be perceived as a supplement to the initial release of "Flex-Able". As in the case of the main album, "Flex-Able Leftovers" boast of a Zappa-based stylistic and musical influence. Background There were only two EP editions in 1984: * The first issue (limited to 1,000 copies) on Urantia Records. * The second issue, with a different cover artwork/design (limited to 1,000 copies) on Akashic Records. The Attitude Song
"The Attitude Song" is the sixth track of Steve Vai's debut solo album ''Flex-Able'', which was released in 1984. One of Vai's most frequently performed pieces, it appears on the '' G3: Live in Concert'' DVD, on the ''Live at Astoria'' DVD (with special guest Eric Sardinas), and in orchestral form with the Metropole Orkest on '' Sound Theories''. On March 4, 2010, as part of the launch of Harmonix's Rock Band Network downloadable content platform, "The Attitude Song" was offered as new content for ''Rock Band''. Stuart Hamm
Stuart Hamm (born February 8, 1960) is an American bass guitar player, known for his session and live work with numerous artists as well as for his unconventional playing style and solo recordings. Career Born in New Orleans, Hamm spent his childhood and youth in Champaign, Illinois, where he studied bass and piano, played in the stage band at Champaign Central High School, and was selected to the Illinois All-State Band. Hamm graduated from Hanover High in Hanover, New Hampshire in 1978, while living in Norwich, Vermont. Following high school, he attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he met guitarist Steve Vai and, through him, met Joe Satriani. William Earl Becton, Jr. (born December 31, 1968) is an American gospel musician. He started his music career, in 1995, with the release of, ''Broken'', that was released by Intersound Records. His second album, ''Heart of a Love Song'', was released by CGI Records in association with A&M Records in 1997. Chad Wackerman
Chad Wackerman (born March 25, 1960) is an American jazz, jazz fusion and rock drummer, who has played with Frank Zappa and Allan Holdsworth. He has worked as a band member, session musician, sideman, and leader of his own ensembles. He is the older brother of drummers John Wackerman and Brooks Wackerman. Musical career Wackerman was raised in Seal Beach, California, in a family immersed in music. His father Chuck Wackerman, a drummer, is a music teacher who has taught at both high school and middle school levels with a specialization in jazz. Tommy Mars
Tommy Mars (born Thomas Mariano on October 26, 1951) is an American keyboard player known for his work with Frank Zappa. Mars began piano lessons at age eight, and later his instrument range expanded to various keyboards and synthesizers. Mars graduated in 1972 from the Hartt College of Music in West Hartford, Connecticut. From there he struggled to hold a variety of musical jobs including choirmaster, church organist, movie accompanist and more. In a 1980 interview in '' Keyboard'' magazine, Mars described one of the more unusual jobs he had as follows - "I was working in this revolving organ bar in Kodiak, Alaska, with Japanese and Russian fishermen kicking me in the back if I couldn't play an ethnic folk song to their drunken satisfaction".
