Flemming Knudsen
Flemming Knudsen (born 31 May 1946) is a Danish politician and former mayor from Aarhus. He was a member of Aarhus City Council between 1986 and 2009 and the mayor of Aarhus between 1997 and 2001. In 2009 he was elected for the council of the Central Denmark Region where he became a member of the business Committee. Flemming Knudsen has been involved with many local organizations, especially sports where he has been chairman of a local handball chapter between 1972 and 1980. Life Flemming Knudsen was born in the Aarhus suburb Viby where he attended Rosenvangskolen and obtained the ''Mellemskoleeksamen'' in 1962 and ''Realeksamen'' in 1963. In 1969 he got a degree as a school teacher from ''Marselisborg Seminarium''. In 1969 to 1970 he worked as a teacher at Vestergårdskolen and in 1970 to 1993 he was employed at Næshøjskolen in Harlev. Aarhus (, , ; officially spelled Århus from 1948 until 1 January 2011) is the second-largest city in Denmark and the seat of Aarhus Municipality. Central Denmark Region
The Central Denmark Region ( da, Region Midtjylland), or more directly translated as the Central Jutland Region and sometimes simply Mid Jutland, is an administrative region of Denmark established on 1 January 2007 as part of the 2007 Danish municipal reform. The reform abolished the traditional counties (''amter'') and replaced them with five new administrative regions. At the same time, smaller municipalities were merged into larger units, cutting the total number of municipalities from 271 to 98. The reform diminished the power of the regional level dramatically in favour of the local level and the national government in Copenhagen. The Central Denmark Region comprises 19 municipalities. Handball
Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. The goals are surrounded by a zone where only the defending goalkeeper is allowed; goals must be scored by throwing the ball from outside the zone or while "diving" into it. Aarhus Municipality ( da, Aarhus Kommune), known as Århus Municipality ( da, Århus Kommune) until 2011, is a municipality in Central Denmark Region, on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in central Denmark. The municipality covers an area of , and has a population of 349,983 as of 2020. The main town and the site of its municipal council is the city of Aarhus. Neighbouring municipalities are Syddjurs to the north, Favrskov to the northwest, Skanderborg to the southwest, and Odder to the south. Viby J (or just Viby) is a former town and now a district, in the southwestern part of Aarhus in Denmark. The district has almost 30,000 inhabitants. The "J" stands for Jutland, as there is another town called Viby on the island of Zealand, officially referred to as Viby Sj and also a village on Funen. Etymology and origin Viby derives from the Old Norse words ''vé'' and ''býr'', meaning holy place and town respectively. '' Vi'' is a word represented in many place names in both Denmark and Sweden. The Social Democratic Youth of Denmark ( da, Danmarks Socialdemokratiske Ungdom, DSU) is the national youth wing of the Danish Social Democrats. It is not to be confused with Frit Forum, which is for those in higher education, and whose membership is not restricted by age, unlike the DSU. The organisation is autonomous from the Social Democrats and as such is entitled to formulate its own policies and devise its own campaigns. The Social Democratic Youth movement was established in 1920 after a break-up of the former youth organisation, the Social Democratic Youth League (', SUF). The Social Democrats ( da, Socialdemokraterne, ) is a social democratic political party in Denmark.
