Flatøy is an island in Alver Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The island lies in the district of Nordhordland, just north of the city of Bergen. The main village on the island is Krossneset on the southern part of the island. The northern part of the island, on the southwest shore of Kvernafjord, is very sparsely inhabited. Historically, the island was one of the two main islands of the old Meland Municipality. The island is strategically located at a major transportation crossroads. Flatøy Rock
Flatøy Rock is a music festival held on the island of Flatøy, in western Norway. It was started in a garden by Vegard Flatøy and his friends in the summer of 2008, while Flatøy's parents were on vacation in Lanzarote. In the beginning, the stages were self-roofed by a garden tent. In 2011, the festival had grown too big for the garden, so it moved to the islands closed elementary schools yard, where it could hold a bigger crowd. It expanded into a two-day festival in 2012. Flatøy Rock is based on the volunteer work of the inhabitants of Flatøy, although many of its guests come from the nearby municipalities of Lindås, Meland and Bergen. Its philosophy has been to promote up-and-coming artists and acts which normally do not get big stage attention. Flatøy Rock also has a sub-festival for people under 18 years of age. Nordhordland Bridge
The Nordhordland Bridge ( no, Nordhordlandsbrua) is a combined cable-stayed and pontoon bridge which crosses Salhusfjorden between Klauvaneset (in Bergen Municipality) and the island of Flatøy (in Alver Municipality) in Vestland county, Norway. It is long, of which the pontoon section is long. The cable-stayed section consists of a single tall H-pylon which has a length of and a main span of . This allows for a clearance of . The floating section is a steel box girder bridge with ten pontoons, which because of the fjord's depth are not laterally anchored. The roadway sits on an orthotropic deck. Meland Municipality
Meland is a former municipality in the Nordhordland district in the old Hordaland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1923 until its dissolution on 1 January 2020 when it was merged into the new Alver Municipality in Vestland county. The municipality was located about 30 minutes north of the city of Bergen in Western Norway. The island municipality was mostly located on the island of Holsnøy, where the administrative centre of Frekhaug is located. Kvernafjord
Kvernafjord is a small fjord next to the island of Flatøy and just west of the village of Knarvik in Alver Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The fjord lies between the Radfjord, which is part of the same fjord system, and the sound Hagelsund, which creates a link to the southeast, where Salhusfjord meets Osterfjord. Kvernafjord extends northwest to a line between Radtangen on the island of Radøy to the northeast and Skarpeneset on the island of Holsnøy to the southwest. The strait Alverstraum lies to the east, creating a connection to the village of Alversund. At the south end of the fjord, European route E39 crosses the Hagelsund over the Hagelsund Bridge.
