Flash Recovery Area
In Oracle databases, Flashback tools allow administrators and users to view and manipulate past states of an instance's data without (destructively) recovering to a fixed point in time. Compare the functionality of Oracle LogMiner, which identifies how and when data changed rather than its state at a given time. Flash Recovery Area Flashback requires the Flash Recovery Area (FRA), a storage area that allows Flash Backup and Recovery operations on Oracle databases. DBAs may configure the FRA on an ASM diskgroup or on local disk. It is a specific area of disk storage that is set aside exclusively for retention of backup components such as datafile image copies, archived redo logs, and control-file autobackup copies. The FRA feature is available from release Oracle 10g onwards. Oracle Database
Oracle Database (commonly referred to as Oracle DBMS, Oracle Autonomous Database, or simply as Oracle) is a proprietary multi-model database management system produced and marketed by Oracle Corporation. It is a database commonly used for running online transaction processing (OLTP), data warehousing (DW) and mixed (OLTP & DW) database workloads. Oracle Database is available by several service providers on-premises, on-cloud, or as a hybrid cloud installation. It may be run on third party servers as well as on Oracle hardware ( Exadata on-premises, on Oracle Cloud or at Cloud at Customer). Oracle Database uses SQL for database updating and retrieval. History Larry Ellison and his two friends and former co-workers, Bob Miner and Ed Oates, started a consultancy called Software Development Laboratories (SDL) in 1977, later Oracle Corporation. SDL developed the original version of the Oracle software. The name ''Oracle'' comes from the code-name of a CIA-funded proj ...

The role may include capacity planning, installation, configuration, database design, migration, performance monitoring, security, troubleshooting, as well as backup and data recovery. Skills Required skills for database administrators include knowledge of SQL, database queries, database theory, database design, specific databases, such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, or MySQL, storage technologies, distributed computing architectures, operating systems, routine maintenance, recovery, and replication/failover. Certification Training for DBAs with accompanying certifications is widely available, offered by database vendors and third parties. Database Instance
In computing, a database is an organized collection of data or a type of data store based on the use of a database management system (DBMS), the software that interacts with end users, applications, and the database itself to capture and analyze the data. The DBMS additionally encompasses the core facilities provided to administer the database. The sum total of the database, the DBMS and the associated applications can be referred to as a database system. Often the term "database" is also used loosely to refer to any of the DBMS, the database system or an application associated with the database. Before digital storage and retrieval of data have become widespread, index cards were used for data storage in a wide range of applications and environments: in the home to record and store recipes, shopping lists, contact information and other organizational data; in business to record presentation notes, project research and notes, and contact information; in schools as flash cards o ...

Data
Data ( , ) are a collection of discrete or continuous values that convey information, describing the quantity, quality, fact, statistics, other basic units of meaning, or simply sequences of symbols that may be further interpreted formally. A datum is an individual value in a collection of data. Data are usually organized into structures such as tables that provide additional context and meaning, and may themselves be used as data in larger structures. Data may be used as variables in a computational process. Data may represent abstract ideas or concrete measurements. Data are commonly used in scientific research, economics, and virtually every other form of human organizational activity. Examples of data sets include price indices (such as the consumer price index), unemployment rates, literacy rates, and census data. In this context, data represent the raw facts and figures from which useful information can be extracted. Data are collected using technique ...

Data Recovery
In computing, data recovery is a process of retrieving deleted, inaccessible, lost, corrupted, damaged, overwritten or formatted data from computer data storage#Secondary storage, secondary storage, removable media or Computer file, files, when the data stored in them cannot be accessed in a usual way. The data is most often salvaged from storage media such as internal or external hard disk drives (HDDs), solid-state drives (SSDs), USB flash drives, Magnetic-tape data storage, magnetic tapes, Compact disc, CDs, DVDs, RAID subsystems, and other electronics, electronic devices. Recovery may be required due to physical damage to the storage devices or logical damage to the file system that prevents it from being Mount (computing), mounted by the host operating system (OS). Logical failures occur when the hard drive devices are functional but the user or automated-OS cannot retrieve or access data stored on them. Logical failures can occur due to corruption of the engineering chip, l ...

Oracle LogMiner
Oracle LogMiner, a utility provided by Oracle Corporation to purchasers of its Oracle database, provides methods of querying logged changes made to an Oracle database, principally through SQL commands referencing data in Oracle redo logs. A GUI interface for the functionality comes with the Oracle Enterprise Manager product. LogMiner turns the concept and practices of data mining on the internal processes of the database itself. Database administrators can use LogMiner to: * identify the time of a database-event * isolate transactions carried out in error by users * determine steps needed for the recovery of inadvertent changes to data * assemble data on actual usage for use in performance-tuning and capacity-planning * audit An audit is an "independent examination of financial information of any entity, whether profit oriented or not, irrespective of its size or legal form when such an examination is conducted with a view to express an opinion thereon." Auditing al .. ...

Automatic Storage Management
Automatic Storage Management (ASM) is a feature provided by Oracle Corporation within the Oracle Database from release Oracle 10g (revision 1) onwards. ASM aims to simplify the management of database datafiles, control files and log files. To do so, it provides tools to manage file systems and volumes directly inside the database, allowing database administrators (DBAs) to control volumes and disks with familiar SQL statements in standard Oracle environments. Thus DBAs do not need extra skills in specific file systems or volume managers (which usually operate at the level of the operating system). Features * IO channels can take advantage of data striping and software mirroring * DBAs can automate online redistribution of data, along with the addition and removal of disks/storage * the system maintains redundant copies and provides 3rd-party RAID functionality * Oracle supports third-party multipathing IO technologies (such as failover or load balancing to SAN access) * the ...
