Flash Flood Alley
Flash Flood Alley is an area of Central Texas that is considered the most flash-flood prone region in the United States. Location Flash Flood Alley covers a crescent-shaped band along the Balcones Escarpment from west of San Antonio through Austin and Waco to the east of Dallas. The area includes the Guadalupe River and Colorado River basins. According to the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority, the Guadalupe basin is "one of the three most dangerous regions in the country for flash floods". Causes The area experiences typical flooding in heavy rainstorms which often fill streets or lowlying areas and cause damage. Flash floods occur when the location of rain, heaviness of rain, and duration of rain combine to overload drainage streams and rivers in a very short time. Flash Flood
A flash flood is a rapid flooding of low-lying areas: washes, rivers, dry lakes and depressions. It may be caused by heavy rain associated with a severe thunderstorm, hurricane, or tropical storm, or by meltwater from ice and snow. Flash floods may also occur after the collapse of a natural ice or debris dam, or a human structure such as a man-made dam, as occurred before the Johnstown Flood of 1889. Global Warming

Permeable paving surfaces are made of either a porous material that enables stormwater to flow through it or nonporous blocks spaced so that water can flow between the gaps. Permeable paving can also include a variety of surfacing techniques for roads, parking lots, and pedestrian walkways.
