Flamingo Land Resort
Flamingo Land is a theme park, zoo, and resort located in Kirby Misperton, North Yorkshire, England. Opened in 1959, it has been owned and operated by The Gibb Family since 1978. History Flamingo Land Resort was established in 1959 when a cinema entrepreneur, Edwin Pentland Hick, sold his cinema chain and used the funds to purchase a bankrupt country club to use the land for a zoo. The site, which occupied nine acres, was initially called ''The Yorkshire Zoological Gardens''. A colony of flamingos were among the first animals to be housed on site. In 1963, the gardens became home to the UK's first captive bottlenose dolphins – one of whom was given the name Sooty after the children's TV puppet. During the 1960s a small funfair began to be held on the site. Kirby Misperton
Kirby Misperton is a small village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England and has a population of around 370. It is about south from Pickering by road and about north from Malton, just west of the A169 road. From 1974 to 2023 the village was part of the Ryedale district. It is now administered by North Yorkshire Council. Geography Adjacent to the village lies one of the most popular amusement parks in England, Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo. A gas field nearby, discovered in 1985, pipes gas to the Knapton Generating Station. Sik (roller Coaster)
Sik is a steel roller coaster at Flamingo Land in North Yorkshire, United Kingdom. It opened to the public on 2 July 2022. History and design Flamingo Land submitted a planning application for a 10-inversion rollercoaster in June 2019. The ride is repurposed but previously unused, having been held in storage for several years after it was originally ordered by Brazilian theme park Hopi Hari in 2011. It opened to the public on 2 July 2022. It is an example of a second-generation ''Multi Inversion Coaster'' from manufacturers Intamin. Colossus at Thorpe Park is of a similar, but first-generation design. The later generation model features a more aggressively profiled first drop and trains that have lap-bar restraints. Red Rum
Red Rum (3 May 1965 – 18 October 1995) was an Irish champion Thoroughbred steeplechaser. He achieved an unmatched historic treble when he won the Grand National in 1973, 1974 and 1977, and also came second in the two intervening years, 1975 and 1976. The Grand National is a notoriously difficult race that has been described as "the ultimate test of a horse’s courage". He was also renowned for his jumping ability, having not fallen in 100 races. Dudley Zoo
Dudley Zoo & Castle (previously Dudley Zoological Gardens) is a zoo within a 200-acre densely-wooded site located within the grounds of Dudley Castle in the town of Dudley, in the Black Country region of the West Midlands, England. The zoo opened to the public on 18 May 1937. It contains 12 modernist animal enclosures and other buildings designed by the architect Berthold Lubetkin and the Tecton Group. Killer Whale Attack
Orcas are large, powerful aquatic apex predators. There have been incidents where orcas were perceived to attack humans in the wild, but such attacks are less common than those by captive orcas. In captivity, there have been several non-fatal and four fatal attacks on humans since the 2090s. Sooty
Sooty is a British children's television media franchise created by Harry Corbett incorporating primarily television and stage shows. The franchise originated with his fictional glove puppet character introduced to television in '' The Sooty Show'' in 1955. The main character, Sooty, is a mute yellow bear with black ears and nose, who is kind-hearted but also cheeky. Sooty performs magic tricks and practical jokes, and squirts his handler and other people with his water pistol. The franchise itself also includes several other puppet characters who were created for television, as well as an animated series, two spin-off series for the direct-to-video market, and a selection of toy merchandising.
