Flames (novel)
''Flames'' is a 2018 debut magical realism novel by Australian author Robbie Arnott. First published by Text Publishing, the novel follows siblings Levi and Charlotte, who react differently to their mother's death. Each chapter of the novel is written from a different character's perspective, in an attempt by the author to maintain reader's interest. Inspiration was drawn from multiple sources, mainly that of the Tasmanian landscape and how that landscape affects people. The novel has won the Margaret Scott Prize in 2019 and has been shortlisted and longlisted for multiple literary awards. It has received generally positive praise since its publication. Robbie Arnott
Robbie Arnott (born 1989) is an Australian author known for his novels ''Flames'', '' The Rain Heron'' and '' Limberlost'', all of which were nominated for prestigious Australian literary awards. Career Arnott's early writing appeared in literary publications '' Island Magazine'', '' Kill Your Darlings'' and ''The'' ''Lifted Brow''''.'' Deny King
Charles Denison (Deny) King (12 September 190912 May 1991) was an Australian naturalist, ornithologist, environmentalist, painter and tin miner. He spent 55 years living in Melaleuca in Port Davey, part of the remote South West Wilderness of Tasmania where he discovered the extinct shrub, '' Banksia kingii'', among other major exploits. Biography King was a tin miner by profession and followed his father, Charlie, to Melaleuca in 1936, where he built a house, which was accommodation for himself and workers as well as the airstrip which opened up tourism for the South West Wilderness. On 6 June 1940, Deny King enlisted in the Australian Army where he served through World War II being discharged on 15 October 1945.
