Flamenco-rock
Flamenco rock or Andalusian rock is a rock music subgenre that emerged from (but is not limited to) the Spain, Spanish region of Andalusia throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s. There were some precedents like a couple of albums (''Rock Encounter'' and ''The Soul of Flamenco and the Essence of Rock'') by Sabicas, a handful of singles by Smash (Spanish band), Smash, Gong, Galaxia, Flamenco or even the American-British band Carmen (band), Carmen. However, Triana (band), Triana was recognized as a pioneer of the genre since their music focuses on a homogeneous fusion of the progressive rock and flamenco. Many bands that mixed progressive and symphonic rock with flamenco followed them such as Imán Califato independiente, Cai, Guadalquivir, Alameda or Mezquita (band), Mezquita; that's why the term ''Andalusian rock'' may be understood simply as ''flamenco prog''. Triana (band)
Triana was a rock band hailing from Seville, Spain. Formed in 1974, the band was known for blending elements of progressive rock and flamenco music to make a style known as Andalusian rock or flamenco rock. History First lineup (1974-83) Triana was formed in 1974 as a trio consisting of vocalist and organist Jesús de la Rosa Luque, guitarist Eduardo Rodríguez Rodway, and drummer Juan José Palacios, better known as Tele. The band released its untitled debut album (nick-named ''El patio'') the next year, presenting a sound that blended elements of Andalusian flamenco music with progressive and psychedelic rock. Although a commercial failure, the album earned the band a cult following among the Spanish youth who, following the belated fall of fascism in the country, were interested in the subversive themes of rock (especially psychedelic rock) presented in Triana's music. Cajón
A cajón ( ; "box, crate, drawer") is a box-shaped percussion instrument originally from Peru, played by slapping the front or rear faces (generally thin plywood) with the hands, fingers, or sometimes implements such as brushes, mallets, or sticks. Cajóns are primarily played in Afro-Peruvian music (specifically música criolla), but have made their way into flamenco as well. The term cajón is also applied to other box drums used in Latin American music, such as the Cuban cajón de rumba and the Mexican cajón de tapeo. Pata Negra is a Spanish flamenco-blues band, established by brothers Raimundo Amador (singer and guitarist, b. 1959 in Seville Seville ( ; , ) is the capital and largest city of the Spain, Spanish autonomous communities of Spain, autonomous community of Andalusia and the province of Seville. Medina Azahara is a hard rock band formed in Córdoba, Spain in 1979. Carmen (band)
Carmen was an American-British band active from 1970 to 1975. Their style was a fusion of rock music, rock, progressive music, progressive, and flamenco music and dance. Carmen's first album, ''Fandangos in Space'', is ranked number 46 in the Rolling Stone list of ''50 Greatest Prog Rock Albums of All Time''. Smash (Spanish Band)
Smash were a Spanish psychedelic rock band formed by the sitar and guitar player Gualberto García and singer and bassist Julio Matito (1946-1979) in 1967, which was active up to 1973. Sabicas
Sabicas (proper name: Agustín Castellón Campos) (16 March 1912 – 14 April 1990) was a Spanish flamenco guitarist of Romani origin. Biography Sabicas was born in Pamplona, Spain, and began playing guitar at the age of five and made his performing debut two years later. His early style was influenced by Ramón Montoya, to whom he was related on his mother's side of the family. Extensive collaboration with important ''cantaores'' (male flamenco singers) of the period helped him develop his personal style. Leaving Spain in 1936 during the Spanish Civil War, he went into exile in Latin America with ''bailaora'' (dancer) Carmen Amaya. He lived in Mexico City, married Esperanza González Erazo and had four children of the marriage: Maricruz 1944, Carlos 1946, Agustine 1952 and Margaret 1956. Flamenco
Flamenco () is an art form based on the various folkloric music traditions of southern Spain, developed within the Gitanos, gitano subculture of the region of Andalusia, and also having historical presence in Extremadura and Region of Murcia, Murcia.
