Fives-Lille was a French engineering company located at Fives, Nord, Fives, a suburb of Lille. It is now part of the Fives Group. History The company began as in 1861. The founders and were of Belgian origin. The company later entered into a joint venture with Société J. F. Cail & Cie. This co-operation led to expansion and the creation of several factories. One plant, located in the district of Fives, Nord, Fives, near Lille, specialized in the construction of rails and steam locomotives. Another plant in Givors on the Rhône specialized in Wheelset (rail transport), wheelsets for railway rolling stock. The business developed and became, in 1865, the ''Compagnie de Fives - Lille'', then in 1868, the limited company ''Compagnie de Fives-Lille pour constructions mécaniques et entreprises''. Saint Nicasius of Reims (; d. 407 or 451) was a Bishop of Reims. He founded the first Reims Cathedral and is the patron saint of smallpox victims. The history of Lille dates back to the 11th century when Baldwin V, Count of Flanders, Baudouin V of Flanders endowed the recently founded collegiate church of Saint-Pierre with a charter in 1066. The city, capital of the Burgundian region, enjoyed a period of great influence and prosperity in the 15th century. Attached to the kingdom of France after Louis XIV's conquest in 1667, and enlarged by Sébastien Le Prestre, Marquis of Vauban, Vauban, the town suffocated in the mid-nineteenth century within its two-century-old ramparts, unsuited to the development of the large textile industry. In 1858, Napoleon III decided to annex the neighboring communes and extend the city walls. The two world wars were particularly painful ordeals.
